Beleaguered Estes Park feels the pain of neighboring park's closure

The shuttering of the federal government Tuesday closed national parks, hurting tourism across the country, but the pain was especially acute in Estes Park, in the heart of a region still struggling to its feet after last month's floods. Full Story

what-so-ever for the park to be "closed". This is a bulls*t decision by the NPS Washington people. I don't recognize that they have the authority to keep the public off of the public's land!

Do they close the park when no rangers are on duty at night? No. So why do they think they have to close it when they at least do have a skeleton crew on?

Sorry, Mr Oliver, that the bureaucrats, national and local alike, are such heartless b@stards......

the Pubs from reimplementing funding for the National Parks. If they don't pass it today, it is clear the Dems don't give a crap about Estes Park.

not just the native born of colorado but "us", who could not thrive in colorado's economy yet go there often for the greatest ease of mind and, to heal.
from whatever, whenever.
it is good medicine...
we, living further away are going to be the first back there, to "go home" and yes, spend our dollars there.
i am grateful for the little i have in life and depend on my brief escape to estes park from texas.

The news media make it pretty clear that the Tea Party Republicans have planned for a long time for a govt shut down. How about all of you conservative gun nuts calling these people in DC and thanking them for representing you. Particularly your idol Ted Cruz.

House just passed bill to fund National Parks. Cong. Polis voted yes. Will Sen. Udall also support when it comes to the Senate?

We have planned our trip to RMNP for a long time. We used to go every year, but had not been able to do that in the last 10 years. This year we made sacrifices to make it happen, but due to spineless government we won't be able to visit RMNP, but we will still go to Grand Lake and will still go to Estes Park to help with the clean up. Wish those in DC will grow some spine and do the job they were elected to or as an alternative " fire them all and start over again." Ted Cruz is an idiot!

Hey teabaggers there are consequences to your actions. There are so many in Estes Park I wonder how they feel about committing economic suicide.

I think that maybe you should blame those responsible which would be the very small minority in the house that have caused all of this to begin with. The teabaggers do not get to pick and choose.

The flood was not an "act of God," it was an act of rainfall.
