Estes Park is completely unaffected by the fire, some might say indifferent. One person is already dead, hundreds of homes will likely be destroyed, and we are forced to read constant updates about the progress of a meaningless bicycle ride across Colorado. Some of the participants are trained firefighters. I hope they are enjoying themselves. You can always postpone a pleasure ride until next year. But I don't see this fire agreeing to come back later. This would be like holding a carnival at ground zero shortly after 9-11.

Let's examine our priorities, people. Cancel the bicycle parade.

the answer to that was to post most pictures of bikers and bicycles. Thanks Estes Park Trail-Gas-Ette. I am sure the survivors of the fire are concerned first and foremost about how sore and uncomfortable a bunch of weekend warriors are after a hard day of riding a bike.

We will be going into Estes Park June 22 until June 29.

Hope the fire and smoke will not disturb our stay.

We will be sorry for those that will be affected and hope the fire will be distinguished soon.

Little misleading here. Estes Park maybe 45 miles from Ft Collins by road. But, the southwest portion of the fire is no more than 25 miles (maybe less) from Estes. Fires don't necessarily travel down roadways...

I am sure the fire has distinguished itself in magnitude, but I believe you hope it will be extinguished soon.
If only not to disturb your stay!
Hoping fire fighters, homeowners, etc stay safe. It is devastating to see this destruction.

Could the Estes Trash-Canette stop running the Where's Waldo series and perhaps update everyone on how many people have died in the fire? Maybe a wire story if your photographer and reporter is off enjoying himself in Carbondale.
Tell you what

It looks bad. May crest the hill tonight. Maybe the Trader Joe Gazette can send a bicycle over there next week.

Love love love how the talking points have made it to all the media outlets: "This is a huge fire - we need federal money now!!! Huge. Huge. Huge. Oops, our calling it huge is impacting Estes Park's tourism dollars? Well, then, there is nothing to worry about. It's just a small campfire, very far away and completely not worth talking about. That person you see running down the street in flames? That's just a circus act. Oh, wait, we've scared the circus from ever coming to town again? Then it's just some guy who purposefully lit himself on fire. All that smoke you are having to inhale? That's just a lovely pine scent our town officials have released to make your experience more enjoyable. Here is a picture of a bicycle to distract you."

how is the smoke in the Estes Park area? The YMCA of the Rockies says the air is perfect and pristine with no smoke at all. How can that be true? I live in New Mexico and last summer the smoke from the Arizona fires made working outside here in NM impossible. The asthma in my family was very hard to control with fires a 100 miles away. How can a fire 20 miles away not affect the air quality?

I do not need public relations spin aimed at protecting tourism. I need a honest assessment of the current situation because we are supposed to visit Estes Park in 4 days ann I do not want to put my small asthma kid at risk.

Severe haze here today (July 2), and visibility is just over 5 miles. Difficult to see Storm Mountain from near the hospital. If anyone from the YMCA are seriously claiming "pristine skies", they are lying sacks of sh&t! Most of today's smoke pollution is coming from Wyoming and draining down the Front Range.

depends on when you called as far as them telling you that it was pristine. Some days are good and some are bad. The smoke is definetly affecting the area today but as far as for your trip it could be either way. On the days that the winds blow from the west then air quality is just fine. It really all just depends on the wind.
