Hmmmm, so the Police Department is planning on increasing it's revenue by making would-be travelers avoid driving there like it was the plague? Makes sense to me from their point of view, but what about local businesses? Bit of a kick in the rear for the locals eh?

No traffic fatalities since the 1940's? Wow, sounds like it's directly related to the speed limits too.... what were the speed limits there 60+ years ago?

It doesn't matter if the tickets were a thousand dollars a pop! If you live on the westbank than you know to watch yourself in westwego and in gretna because they are unincorporated in JP and have their own police force...therefore lots of cops in a little town-you best beleive they are watching you.

Then tell us why the camera on lapalco going towards avondale is only on when it is pitch black nighttime and not in the daytime...I will tell you, they are targeting the unsuspecting when this was already a speed trap without the camera. With the speed limit dropping from 45 to 35 on a dark lonly road with nothing around. there is no reason the speed limit should be this low. Westwego is using speed cameras as "cash cow". We shop in that are all the time and i can guarantee you that we will never spend another dime in Westwego again. It is too easy to go somewhere else. And it was not like I am habitual speeder. So Westwego where will you get your revenue from when people quit going through your community and spending money in your community? Not from me and a lot of other people I know!!!

I own a business in Westwego and also live here.I know of many people who will not come to my business, due to the traps. Not that they are speeding but they don't know if the cops will find a reason to stop them for whatever reason. HAS THIS HURT MY BUSINESS, YOU BET IT HAS......WE are shooting ourselves in the foot Westwego for any future business to want to come here. Our crime rate is great and I appreciate our officers for patrolling and making me feel safe in my home.Bottom line, I need to make a living in order to stay in this community, and the situation with the traps really affects this.

I am a contractor from north shore doing my first job in Westwego. I have a radar detector and it goes off all day long in Westwego. One speed trap after another. Had 3 tickets in one stop, and a photo ticket. Once I finish this job I won t come back. While I'm still here working, I will avoid restaurants and business as much as possible. I went to court to fight one citation. There were people in city court fighting tickets for 20 mph in a 15 mph zone. I know other business people who will not set foot in Westwego because of overzealous cops. Once I'm gone I'm not coming back. I feel sorry for you guys who have to live here and put up with this. WHEN YOU CAN VOTE, VOTE THEM OUT. Only way to stop them.
