why not simply give the current home owners the opportunity to purchase the land their cottages are on? Many of them have been there for several generations & love it there. The town would make money from the sale of the land & would lose nothing in the way of tax revenue.
The town would have everything to gain by doing so. If the current Home owner could not afford the land, they could certainly put the cottage & land up for sale.
the national register of historic places stated this is a unique summer colony & should be preserved. There is no beach to speak of & it would not make much of a park in comparison to areas already available, such as stage fort. Tearing it all down would end up costing the town money it may never regain.
why not keep as is & simply sell the land?
