What a waste of time and money. New Mexicans get screwed again for the enjoyment of a few.

The distances to other planets are far to large to ever travel to them. We will learn about alien life with intercept of signal other planets emit like signals emitted from Earth and from extremely high resolution mapping of any inhabited planets we may find. That will be done from advanced technology electronic systems on the backside of the moon or on Mars. There are 34 stars within 15 light years of Earth. That is where the search for alien life will begin.

Future generations will live in space, definitely on the moon, and probably on Mars. Our species is destined to experience other worlds. New Mexico has a good chance of being a major lift-off point.

Nobody in New Mexico seems to understand that this spaceport scam is going on around the world. The caption repeats the line about this being the "first spaceport" when it is actually only the first one being built from scratch and that there there are projects at many other locations. In other words, other places may have bought the idea that there is a real industry here but at least had the sense to develope them at existing facilties.

Here, somebody will make a fortune building roads, adding powerlines, hauling concrete and doing construction in a very remote and pristine rangeland while elsewhere they will reuse old air force bases and airport facilities. This will become a movie studio for science fiction films rather than a center for a new science-based industry.

"If you got tape of what things looked like today, 10 years from now, people won't believe it looked like that," he said.

Unfortunately - what a timeless, historic landscape that we will be lost.

Did anyone think to calculate what the environmental impact of commercializing rocket industry would be? No one stopped to think of the tremendous pollution and impact on global warming that this new industry will create. Where is the corporate responsibility in addressing some of the potentially disastrous environmental consequences???

sasha, Yes. One of the businesses that will be using the Spaceport is all about environmental impact. They will be putting power plants in orbit that consume no hydrocarbons, so the Spaceport will help lower industrial pollution. That business is relocating to this area because of the Spaceport.
I feel that more information needs to be giving to the public so that we all can see that 1. thought has been given to the environment and 2. there is a market for the technologies planned, and 3. relying on the government to do what so many of us want done for our planet simply because the government already has space facilities is a huge procrastination. They've had the means and the technology for 40 years. We the people can do better.
