Don't base all this on 3 weekends of FREE fares. The current corridor will work but that is a great deal of "new" infrastructure to build when you talk about Espanola & Taos. Working with Colorado to extend the service from El Paso to Denver makes more sense since BNSF trackage is already in place.

Are Espanola & Taos going to pay for this extension or will they cop out just like Santa Fe County did?

Heck, just let the dumb voters in Bernalillo County pick up the tab!
They love voting for tax increases!

A good idea, but...

Is this a new third world corridor for future US cheap labor? A one way train? El Paso to Denver?

Hmm. Just a thought.

Umm. Do some research before opening your mouth and letting the flies out. We up here are paying our fair share.

I think that it should have a branch out to Rio Rancho also. That would serve thousands of commuters that travel between Rio Rancho to Santa Fe and Los Alamos.

Why is the railrunner always in the news. I sometimes feel like KOB is running a continuous advertisement for it. If it is doing so great, why is it my taxes are going up to pay for it?

Where would we be without dreams? Anyone traveling between Taos, Espanola and Santa Fe know how bad people's driving manners are. Please, extend the Railrunner!

The train doesn't go to one of the largest cities in New Mexico, Rio Rancho, but they want it to go to Taos and Espanola. You gotta love the genius who makes these decisions.

Oh yes! Please build a track to Rio Rancho. I'd pay my share of the taxes and never gripe about it if it would slow down the westside commuters on the Montano bridge and help us get back our nice quiet valley!!

"Espanola has always been a railroad town since the Chile Line passed through in the 1800s"

Always? It was pulled out in 1941.

Commuter rail works only for big towns where there are already tracks. There is no such thing as "rural commuter rail." You don't run trains to small towns in the middle of nowhere. If it had worked, the Chile Line wouldn't have pulled out 65 years ago! It would cost a billion or more for a line to Taos...there's not money for that.

I think the Railrunner would be a great idea clear to Taos. Especially during the winter months. Maybe some of the tourists would use it and it would cut down the traffic in Taos.

So tell me genius, why did the recent tax increase only apply to Valencia, Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties!

Heck we should be crisscrossing the entire state with light rail.

Lightrail is electric powered used in cities. Commuter rail is heavy rail, typically diesel powered.

So if the Rail Runner goes to Espanola are we going to have to pay for a dayglow Virgin Mary paint job and spiffy rims? The rail runner should go to Moriarty while were at it so I can buy me some fire works.

It would be a good idea it sure would help the commuters from Taos to Santa Fe and from Espanola to Santa Fe as well. If you don't drive those corridors you shouldn't have anything to say about it. Worry about your own commute.
