another farce forced change by the govt.
What planet are you from? This has nothing to do with the government, It was a telephone company decision because of the population growth, and future growth, of the state. More people are moving here and one area code would soon be overwhelmed.

I too had to change business cards, letterheads that sort of thing, but it only cost me a little ink, paper and printer time to change my paperwork. How much would it cost for all the national and international businesses located in Albu. to change theirs? Since the majority of state and federal government offices are located in the two cities different, how much would it have cost the taxpayers? I doubt we have more than 3 or 4 people in state government that know how to use a printer so the printing would have to be contracted out. And, judging by the voter card fiasco, it would take months and several different versions printed up before everything was right again.

The change was inevitable and the phone companies did it right. Quit waaaaing and live with it.

So what does that mean to gangsters with the "505" tattoo that live in the "575" area. I hope that does not mean that they all have to move over to our beloved 505 area.

We know how to use proper punctuation, but I digress. It would be a tremendous hassle for 700,000+ in the Abq metro area and Santa Fe to change #'s, vice the combined approx. pop. of < 200,000 in the 575 area. Some simple math skills + a dose of common sense would serve some people on here well.
OMG!That es so PECKER-HEADISH

another kick in the teeth from northern New Mexico to the southern part. what makes them so special! maybe we should split the state into 2 states & the northern end would not have our oil & gas money.

It wasn't hard for me at all to update my new area code with my friends, family and business contacts. And I had a full year to do it (can't speak for anyone else but I'm pretty sure that I wasn't the only one given a year). But then again, this is the land of laziness...

A simple switch that so many other states have had to go through but here in NM it seems to be such big deal! Come on folks, it isn't rocket science.

You know what this means for ricco. It means that I have to go through the painstaking task of e-mailing all my hot babes, from different parts of this country, about my new 575 area code. I can only imagine their distress when they can't get ahold of ricco, because of this stupid area code thingy.

Don't mess with my 505 area code or I will make your day!

The thing they should have done was make the 575 strictly for all none land line phones.

Meaning all, yes ALL cell phones would have had the 575 code and that would have freed up thousands of number combinations.

But that would have been to easy to do and they would not have upset people so they just had to split the state up.

As for the gangbangers, they can't shoot either, why they have to have illegal automatics to spew out hundreds of bullets at once hoping to hit someone.

Best thing to do with all of them is gather them up, line them up and just shoot the punks.

The problem with that is that more and more people ar choosing to go wireless over landline. And that would also prevent you from being able to port over your landline phone number to your cellular line.

Get over it folks, welcome to the 21st century. They did the right thing. If the entire state shared two area codes, then you'd have to always dial 10 digit phone numbers throughout New Mexico. Aside from the fact that you'd never know where you were calling, possibly dialing long distance numbers without even knowing it.

Practically ever single other state in the union has experienced an area code split. Why is it that we're still freaking out over this, even a year after the new area code was introduced?

Maybe these whiners would like to live in Denver, 2 area codes for the metro area. Or Phoenix with 4 area codes. How about L.A., with 11 different area codes for the metro area!

There are more important things to worry about than which area code you have to dial. We only have 2 for the entire state!
