So what does that mean to gangsters with the "505" tattoo that live in the "575" area. I hope that does not mean that they all have to move over to our beloved 505 area.

There's only a certain amount of numbers available with seven digits. A new area code was inevitable.

And yes, the little wanna-be thugs with "The 505" tattooed on themselves, that are now in the "575" certainly feel like fools now.

A simple twist of fate I had not considered! LMAO!

Perhaps some tattoo artist will offer them a discount on an asterisk.

Why couldn't they just make all new numbers 575 and leave the rest of us alone? I have to change and I'm pi55ed off about it!

That idea would have made too much sense. I'm pi55ed off about it too. Also, we're exporting all our "505" tattooed thugs up to the Albuquerque area-serves them right.

I think it also has more to do with geography.
From now on, when someone gives their number with 575 or 505 you automatically know roughly what area of the state they live in....plus it would be a huge mess if you have an entire town that is either 575 or 505. It's easier to just group the area code together, rather than just assign the 575 to every new number.

The times they are a'changin'. NM couldnt have only 505 forever. It was inevidable. Still...I will admit it sucks for all those who have to change it. Im 505 but the majority of my friends and family are 575 now.

another kick in the teeth from northern New Mexico to the southern part. what makes them so special! maybe we should split the state into 2 states & the northern end would not have our oil & gas money.

We know how to use proper punctuation, but I digress. It would be a tremendous hassle for 700,000+ in the Abq metro area and Santa Fe to change #'s, vice the combined approx. pop. of < 200,000 in the 575 area. Some simple math skills + a dose of common sense would serve some people on here well.

I kind of understood how those people with the "505" actually tattooed to their bodies might have a reason to biitchh.

I think you took it a little more personal than anyone intended.

I guess 505 Realtors will have to change their name to 575 Realtors now.

Any way. It's just a number. Replace the 0 with a 7.
No problem here. I know the difference between a 0 and a 7. Wow my code to post the comment has three 7's in it.
