Heck, senior citizens are the only ones that have any TIME to do jury duty!!!

If our legislatures keep going pretty soon the only people on jury duty will be criminals. What a thought. Jury duty is a very important part of the judicial process and should be mandatory for everyone with a drivers license.

It's the current law torro. Also, many of the rural towns only have seniors left living in them. All the younger folks have moved to places where they could find decent employment. Who else are they going to get on a jury if not the elderly.

Us old coots are to conservative to be on a jury. Who knows we may vote for the death penalty and then Gov and legislative branch will tell us that is not an option.

This is too funny! I've lived in Albuquerque 40 of my 60 years and not once been called for jury duty. I've never been arrested for anything and my last traffic ticket was about 20 years ago.

I think if they do this it needs to be for all people of NM! Okay, so we would have only those who want a day off work going, but heck, why is it that seniors are so special when it comes to jury duty? Is it because they fall asleep? Do they act out in court? Do they make DWI drivers actually pay? Do they enforce the law on the politicos cousins?(Oh, that must be it! They are too old to be bribed!)

I respectfully disagree. I think that if somebody genuinely doesn't want to do it, they should not be required to. How fair and unbiased do you expect someone to be when they are told "You have to do this, because we said so."

They say jury duty can be stressful.
Yet they force people who have heart trouble and high blood pressure to serve. I know someone who kept giving them a doctor certificate showing this. Yet they still wanted to force him to serve. Maybe if they get a few lawsuits they will quit forcing people who have health problems.
Most older people have some kind of health problems. And after they reach a certain age they should not be forced to serve. After a certain age it should be voluntary.

I'd serve and do okay as long as they put one of them porta potties up there by the bench. Can't go 20 minutes anymore without peeing. And sometimes have to lean over and throw a fart. Would that be contempt of court?

Your lucky. I just received a letter to come in for jury duty.--- I'm on jury duty right now. Funny thing is, it's for the same district court, and both letters were sent by the same girl.
No mercy for seniors in my district.

I wonder some times if jury duty should be left to the older folks, many of who understand the term "justice"<G>.

I've served on jury duty 3 times and the never ending excuses never failed to amuse me. I say amuse me because I think some people stay up all night trying to figure out an excuse not to serve that no one else has used before.

One person there today ask me how I'd like to have a jury hearing my case made up of 12 people to stupid to figure a way out of jury duty.

It was funny, yet not funny.

I have yet to be summoned. My spouse has been called 4 times. I really don't understand this at all.

Me either, as I said before, I've lived here for 40 years, never been arrested or accused of anything improper, yet I'm not on the rolls... And they're whining for people to do this, then delaying the pittance they give those who do...

I've heard two different versions as to howe they select jurors. Some say they are selected from drivers licenses and others say they are selected from being property owners. I'm still not sure how it is done.

When I served in Las Curces there were six people who failed to call or show up the first day they were summoned to appear. After roll call the judge called a deputy up to the bench and told him to bring those six people to him before the end of the day.

The rest of the USA has laws that allow people that provide full-time care for disabled people, disabled people, and people over 70 years of age to avoid jury duty. This makes it even easier for New Mexico bureaucrats to keep calling those jurors they love the best. Haven't you ever noticed that from time to time in the news there are people who have been called to jury duty 5 or more times and others who have never been called, or only been called once in 19 years? This law is not only in keeping with the rest of the USA, it will make the crooked b---a---s---t---a---r---d---s at the Courthouse have an easier time weeding out the people they don't want. Of course, there's always the last minute ploy of switching juries from one case to another as some sleazy judges and D.A.s like to do.
