Seems Sen. Bernadette Sanchez proves to be too much a coward to stand for her convictions.

It appears as if Sen. Sanchez can read the writing on the wall, or poll. She likes her job and 63% of the people in her district are probably not going to forget this particular vote the next time she stands for election.

Let's see how long it takes the religious bigots to start screaming about this one.

Why shouldn't ANY two people be allowed to establish a contractual relationship?

E.g., an aging parent and a younger child? Or a single aunt or uncle without any children and a favorite niece or nephew?

In France MOST of the couples creating domestic partnerships are NOT homosexuals.

I have friends who invited me to climb Pader Nal, Up by Coyote NM. We witnessed a wonderful wedding while up on top, after eating Magic Mushrooms.

And a good time was had by all.

They`re together to this day, that was thirteen years ago. Man time flies.

Guess Rita Ortiz didn't get that inconvenient memo about the Separation of Church and State. Who cares about her expostulations!

First, this bill is not just about homosexual unions, so homophobe arguments are irrelevant. Second, what the Bible, or any other religious book says or doesn't say about homosexuality is also irrelevant, since, at least officially, the constitution requires separation of church and state. It was one of the reasons for which many escaped Europe to come here in the first place. If one starts making religious laws in the US, we'd better start banning divorce, making adultery a punishable crime, and so on (if one want to experience living under religious law, there are today many countries in the world; Iran is a shining example).
Third, even if the bill were only for homosexual couples, I do not understand on what grounds this bill should be opposed, short of basic homophobia. It is about couples having just some of the basic legal rights afforded to married couples and affects sharing of work benefits, hospital visitation and inheritances. It still doesn't give a legal right to marry, and that is not the intent of this bill, and still doesn't give most of the legal rights granted to married couples.

Rita....pray for your priests instead!!!! My morals are substantially better than the priests I read about. My taxes should be reduced if I can't, as a homosexual, be given the same BASIC CIVIL RIGHTS!!!!!!!

The only Democrat to oppose this bill of course would be Richard Martinez. Isn't this really showing his real colors? Trust, everyone would know the truth if they only spoke to him, or saw him. Next time don't oppose what you are really about!

If you people were smart, you would allow same sex marriage. You would bring in so much money with weddings and honeymoons!!

There are many family members who have lived together for decades. If this does not include them then it will be seen as a homosexual bill.

Even if the bill did end up in same sex marriage - SO WHAT!!!! No one is asking a heterosexual or a Catholic or a right-wing Christian to marry a gay person. We've got news for you gang - we don't approve of all of your ways either. But my possible marriage is none of your business.

I’m appalled that Bernadette Sanchez pushed forward the bill allowing domestic partnerships! It goes against what this nation was built on and moral principal! That lifestyle is dead wrong; it’s a sinful way of life no matter how you look at it. People say,‘That lifestyle are accepted today, they have rights’. Maybe so but God’s laws are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Couples ‘living together’ regardless weather straight or gay are living irresponsibility; living in SIN

Gays….
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of Heaven.
Straights….
The six Commandment: Thou shall not commit adultery! Sex outside of marriage is a grave sin! SEXUAL ADULTERY—“Conjugal infidelity. An adulterer is a man who has sexual intercourse with a woman he was not married to, A woman who does the same thing is an adulteress. Adultery is fornication. The Bible regards adultery as a great sin and a great social wrong. John 8:1-11
Legislators passing this bill is just as guilty! If they are ‘Christians’ even a worse sin!

Governor Richardson will sign this bill if it passes, if he does he's in the same category of those favoring 'Pro-Choice'.

So true, Ivan! And don't forget the best one of all:
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 NASB
"If two men, a man and his countryman, are struggling together, and the wife of one comes near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one who is striking him, and puts out her hand and seizes his genitals, then you shall cut off her hand; you shall not show pity."

This happens all the time!
