Full story: TwinCities.com

The Proctor Police Department is having problems collecting from the individual they thought intended to purchase the motorized chair seized from a drunk driver, according to the Duluth News-Tribune. Apparently, the bidder said he never meant to enter a $10,999.99 bid on eBay.

Don't the police department have important things to do instead of selling other people's stuff for money?

I had a deadbeat give me the same line of garbage when I sold a vehicle a year ago. If I would have had the money, I would have sued him. I think the city of proctor should make an example out of this ebay deadbeat.

they don't don't deserve to profit a nickel off something they ripped off. i guess these dumb cops feel they don't have enough opportunities to steal money and property. they're jealous when they read about metro gang task forces and all the stuff they get to steal.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, and ha!
Why would anybody bid anything more than a dime on this stupid piece of junk - why would they Proctor Police Department be so stupid as to thinking they were going to make money off of this stupid piece of junk - why would Mr. Dennis Anderson, age 62, of Proctor, Minnesota be so stupid as think he could drive his lawnmower engine propelled recliner any better than an automobile with a blood-alcohol content in the range of .30?
Stupid, stupid, stupid - dumb, dumb, dumb. Time to put this story to bed.

This would be the best end to the story yet. This chair sitting in the property room forever. Once again MN has become the butt of jokes around the country.

I'm not surprised this would happen. Jim Janos had the same problem years ago when he tried to sell his Porsche on e-Bay. People think it's funny to bid and wish to be a part of what they consider to be the joke and they do not intend to fulfill their financial obligation.

To those of you that state the Proctor Police Department committed a theft when they confiscated this vehicle: read up on state law. Vehicle forfeitures have been ruled constitutional under certain circumstances. This is apparently such a case.

There should be a set fine for all infractions and as long as the perp pays the fine there is NO REASON to take someones car or chair for profit.

The wealthy could care less about loosing a car and many poor invest all their time and money in cars, not a progressive way to levy a fine.

The chair has become a headache for them so the easiest way to solve it is to just give it back to the owner who built it and get on with the real police work. My guess is the owner has learned his lesson... and would more than likely sell it on his own. Case solved.

The guy who got the DWI while driving the chair did not build the chair, he bought the chair already tricked out.

Not that it matters much but this quote from his daughter makes me think he built it.

"It makes me sad, because my dad--he's put a lot of work into it," said Andrea Jorgenson.

The guy does auto body repair work so he's probably pretty handy.

They could give it back with stipulation that he does sell it on his own and doesn't drive it and must donate the money to a good cause.

You're right, it doesn't matter much. But an earlier story reported that he bought the chair. Just because he fixed it up to his liking desn't mean he built it.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Pisces

You have a one track mind today, dear Pisces, and it's running along very ambitious lines, absolutely determined to achieve something you've been attempting for ages. Can you be so committed that you're prepared to let everything else go by the wayside for the time being? That's great, but don't become obsessive about it.
