Not Booming Nor Busted! Downtown Escondido has very nice small town Cafes, Small Pubs, and Restaurants. Sure due to the economy businesses come and go but its not like their are any vacant buildings downtown. If anything they are building more extending downtown slowly past Center City Pkwy.

Also there are many great events Downtown in Escondido. Cruisin' Grand, The Bi Yearly Street Faire, First Night Escondido (for the New Year), National Night Out,(an event for the public service organizations) which gives them a chance to talk to the citizens they protect and serve about any issues they might have. They also are there to talk to the kids and let them check out all the police and firefighter gear cars and firetrucks. They are also there to talk to young future community service workers to motivate them to go for it.

All the above events are on grand street we also have a Community arts center with shows weekly.

The community arts center is the only place in North county of San Diego to see real shows commonly in the Arts Off Broadway events.

To see all the things that happen here year around go to Escondido's Official website at: http://www.ci.escondido.ca.us/events/index.ht...

I personally love my city's Downtown their is something for everyone year around in a square mile or 2 (easily walkable). Not to mention that downtown there are also events at grape day park and also a bi weekly farmers market and a weekend flea market.

So downtown you have the main drag on Grand, the Community Arts Center on Broadway near city hall, and one more block down to Escondido Blvd there is Grape Day Park and a few block further there is the Farmers Market.

Durring the street faire there are things going on in all these places which are in walking distance with free parking right in the center of it all. IMO for a smaller city its great and almost on par with downtown San Diego areas, But more compact and easier to find free parking as we have a large free lot right in the middle of it all from there all areas are in walking distance so no need for a shuttle to get to the faire from your car and you dont have to pay for parking!

IMO Everyone in north county should take advantage of all the community events in Escondido!

Downtown Escondido needs an overhaul. Where is downtown anyway? Mostly everyone goes to the mall or east Valley Pkwy. or west Valley Pkwy. Or they hang out at the theater. Who wants to come to the center of Escondido. The only time there is activity on Grand Ave. is during Cruising Grand or a parade or First Night and other than that it's dead.
Sure everyone is driving past the center of Escondido to go to the four locations I spoke of. Grand Ave. should be the focal point to downtown. So why isn't it? A lot of curio shops but no parking. Downtown Escondido needs to be refurbished. Look what they did with the Police Dept. Even they moved away from downtown Escondido. The hospital is moving away from downtown Escondido.
Look at San Marcos. Do any of you remember how San Marcos used to look? The fathers of San Marcos turned San Marcos into a successful venture while Escondido flounders.
When I think of the thriving businesses in downtown Escondido, I think hmm... Mexican restaurants , Mexican Churches, 7/11, a Reptile store, a dead theater, Filippe's pissa small shops but what else is there? Where can families go to socialize? Grapeday Park? What is the great draw to bring families to downtown Escondido on any given weekend? Booming??? I don't see it!
I think we should retire the city fathers and get some new blood in there. Someone with vision, someone who thinks outside the box. Someone who can visualize what Escondido can really become. Heck even I have some idea's.
Turn Grand Ave. into a Park Place. One lane to emergency vehicles going east and one going west. Tear out the middle of the street. Put in grass, park benches, a bandstand or two, tree's, divert all traffic and parking to Valley Pkwy and 2nd St. and turn Grand Ave. to a family oriented atmosphere where all people can leisurely walk and check out who's who, what's selling and bring excitement back to downtown Escondido.

I have always thought downtown Escondido needs an overhaul. Why not look to Santa Barbara and what they did with their State Street.
Trees, benches, an inviting atmosphere. Quaint shops, entertainment, great eateries...history
It is just easier to bypass downtown.
