This is an inexcusable departure from long-established PUC policy, under which the more commercial business center has retained the old area code, and the outlying bedroom communities have been forced to change. Downtown Los Angeles will always be 213, PUC's headquarters will always be 415, downtown San Diego retained 619 during the 858-760 split, so why isn't north coastal San Diego County retaining 760 instead of Bishop?

Appearantly Dude from El Cahon is not affected by the change. It won't be costing Dude thousands to reprint all his business collateral material.

Surely everyone now knows how to dial a 10-digit number.

For starters,,,I'm not from El Cajon. That's where my ISP is located.
No matter what they do, people are not going to be happy.
I understand you point, but most business at some point do have to reorder stationary. Since it doesn't take full effect for another year, it gives them time to plan when they order new business cards, letterhead etc.
Those items and shirts, signs etc you also should be able to write off as a business expense I believe.
