Unless you are exempt (have one child under the age of 23 months or two children under the age of six; medical or psychological conditions; victim of domestic violence, etc.) you are required to participate in welfare-to-work activities at 32 hours each week (as a single parent). This usually means you are put through a Job Club activity to find employment. But if you're already enrolled in an educational program, like a community college, university, or adult education, you get to continue in school. The county must pay necessary expenses (daycare, transportation, books), however, they are not required to pay tuition (apply for federal financial aid!). If you are exempt, you can tell the worker you want to volunteer and receive help. Get in school!! Create a future of self-sufficiency for yourself and your children! Good luck!
