I myself am a resident of Erwin and I have been thinking of leaving this area. This is in all honesty and not trying to be misleading to you in any way. Jobs here in Erwin are not so many, but Johnson City is much better job wise. I would stick to the JC area if I were you and stay away from Erwin. Erwin has a lot of problems atm with corrupt city officials and other problems. The schools arent that great here due to the school boards and how they are being run. Parents pretty much have to pay for everything and the schools dont really supply anything at all even though they have funding and do fund raisers as well. The teachers are good but underpaid due to overpaid admin. Dont get me wrong, there is good here but not enough to justify me telling you that you should move here over JC.

I lived in Erwin for 8 months. I liked it but there are not very many jobs to choose from. My kids didnot like the schools at all. The houses are very expensive in Erwin to buy or rent. The good thing is your only like 25 mins from JC and there they have everything you want. Hope this helps you.

Erwin is a nice town, but much more opportunity in JC, plus better schools. Like someone else mentioned, the majority of the teachers here are GREAT, but the administration is corrupt. And, Erwin is not the safe, little Mayberry it once was. Look up the sex offender registry on the TN state dept website, its scary. And, unless you are from here or related to someone in a management position, getting a job in this town is out of the question, what jobs are even available, that is.

If you're white, close-minded, racist and ignorant to most other cultures then Erwin is the place for you. If you have an IQ over 50 I wouldn't even consider living there....definitely stay in JC.

Until Erwin cleans out the existing "good ole boy/girl" political infrastructure; gets the property taxes under legitimate management; gets rid of the school board, hospital board, and election commission - then, and only then - come on down/up or wherever you are coming from. We have finally managed to rid ourselves of a sheriff that was corrupt. So, other than that- welcome to Erwin.

Ask his "friend" Tony Clark the District Attorney. I am sure he can tell you all about it. After all, a friend prosecuting the ex-sheriff, that should tell you something.

Our ex-sheriff was indicted on several counts of official misconduct, tampering with evidence, criminal simulation, theft over 1000, and attempted aggravated assault

The ex-sheriff was a low down scoundrel punk ass bitch who was the great grandson of the biggest crook S.O.B. of his day. Is that enough of an answer for you, you braindead punkass?

Across the mountain is a wonderful idea but if they have to work, traveling the mountain roads in the winter could be a problem.
