Hey citizen of unicoi county the real crooks are taken money right out of our pocket and we are letting them. If you pay property taxes yes they are taken money right out of your pocket seriously we have had tax hike year after tax hike well the answer was in paper this week and seriously no one seems to paying attention if two people are on greenbelt not paying takes how many more is there. And if you really look at greenbelt and other tax breaks in the county you will see why we are getting the hikes people that should be paying more taxes are not if two oversite where made how many more. Court House need changes for sure and well all this is public so you can look up anyones taxes if you take a look you will see there is alot of people not paying what they should and yes they hold office lawyer and business owner the good ol boys system is not in just one office it in them all

http://ww2.tnrealestate.com/AssessorSearch.ht...

These two websites make the law clear and well if you do a little research you will find we dont have that many farm, and greenbelt property you can even look at the property by greenbelt etc and make your own assumptions

Quit your crying tax lookup.

ANYONE who qualifies can put their land into Greenbelt. There are 3 categories, Ag, Forest, Open Space.

Go read the law. The "handbook" you reference above is NOT the law.

The LAW is Tn Code 67-5-10. Here is part of the law:

(You might note it says IF the local assessor is having a problem determining whether the property is forest or not, he/she can request the aid of the State Forester...and the State Forester SHALL ( not may) make that advice available. Bet that ain't happened once in TN.)

(b)(1) In determining whether any land is forest land, the assessor of property shall take into account, among other things, the acreage of such land, the amount and type of timber on the land, the actual and potential growth rate of the timber, and the management practices being applied to the land and to the timber on it.

(2) The assessor of property may request the advice of the state forester in determining whether any land should be classified as forest land, and the state forester shall make such advice available.

IF there is anything going on that is wrong, it's that preferential treatment has been given to SOME folks in that they weren't required to file a fool 'management plan'.....but that may simply be because they also KNEW THE LAW.

Unicoi County Greenbelt numbers:

% land on Greenbelt = 22%
number of Greenbelt properties = 570
amount of revenue lost to Greenbelt = over $500,000

Perhaps you could get an official ruling from the state Comptroller of the Treasury on the requirement for a Forestry Management Plan and print his ruling here for everyone to see.

In your analysis, pleae provide documented evidence that the tax assessor of Unicoi County took into account acreage of such land, tha amount & type of timber, & actual potential growth rate of the timber, much less management practices.. I venture to say, that the tax assessor has never been out of her office to assess anything.

Well iam not crying about anything the truth is if you do a little digging on the county tax its not just the greenbelt that has flaws its across the board in taxes it does not take a smart one to figure out black and white on the look up but iam not crying ive actualy took measure that need to be done county is not the only department to speak to I have went way above that to have things look at I think land should be done by parcel not who owns it fair is fair. If it was just greenbelt it would be on thing but its way more than that. This cost the county alot of money and well if should concern all citizen in the county mistakes cost all of us. And well the property tax just keep going up and well look at property you know and see what you think about the apprasials yourself if you agree fine but i dont there is issue for sure.

Oh and one more thing i hear all the time how corupt the town of erwin is well here is my thought if you pay taxes in the city and county and you keep getting a increase and sick of it maybe the person that does the job is no doing the job correct. My feeling on this is taxes that we get charged is just like stealing money out of every citizens pocket if you show favorites and well that is the same as stealing if you give one tax reduction because of who the are instead of by the property should be accesed value.

I heard the commission was supposed to meet about this. What can they do about an elected official not doing their job? But I also heard several commissioners and other officials are on greenbelt but shouldn't be. Who can we trust down there? Bunch of crooks!

You asked the question of who can we trust? The one person who has done more for the citizens of Unicoi County in the area of exposing the property tax problem is Mr. John Day. He "ain't" got no dog in the hunt - he is only asking that elected public officials do their job honestly and represent the citizens that put them in that position. He is the voice for the little and indigent people of our county.

Iam asking alot of questions my self and well ive been through alot of people in Nashville Justin Wilson is where i started and i have alot more calls to make. Ive done enought research that it is not just people in the office downtown its much bigger than that. That why our taxes keep raising the buddy system need to go away we need to access by parcel not owner

The facts are black and white if people start looking it obvious and well I think its sad that citizen have to do our elected official jobs. But this subject is big enough that all citizens should be concern. There is diffrent types of oversites but if you look at the big picture the county is small so oversites should not be happening and I find it sad that more people dont find this serious. This effect all property owner in the county and every property owners money. Iam sick of increases. So Iam going to do what it take to make sure its looked.

Apparently nobody...all swept under the rug I'm sure. The idiots in this county only care about bitching about Harris/Hensley while the other crooks do what they want.

OHHH thats not the only fk up Mr. Lookup... i went and looked up a property @ 201 canah hollow Rd. To see who actually owns it. And low and behold...It is listed as a residential property(And it is in fact being used as a buisness)Is there not a tax diff, between a res. and commercial property?
