Is it just me or does it seem that Glenn Tilson is going out of his way to keep the public's opinion and concerns out of the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital transaction? Canceling and changing meeting times, holding closed meetings instead of making them public, not accepting or taking comments from the public at the meetings that he does allow us to attend are just some of the ways he seems to be keeping the public from its rightful place in being informed as to what is taking place and allowing us to voice our opinions when it is needed. He was quoted as saying that the next meeting held will be open to the public but that "No Comments" will be allowed, which in my humble opinion is not his place to decide. Do any of you agree with me or do you think everything is being taken care of on the up and up?

I have known Glenn for years. He is a good man and he does things fairly and honestly. Glenn serve a number of years in our military and he still conducts himself with the professionalism and honor that the military taught him. In my opinion, I agree that no public comment should be heard at this meeting. As the old saying goes, "we've beat that horse to death long enough." The community has had their opportunity to express their comments in other meetings including the near 3-hour meeting at the Intermediate School, signs have been placed around town and petitions supporting both groups have been signed. Now it is time for the people to step back and allow the hospital board to do their jobs. I doubt any new comment or great revelation could be made at this meeting that will change minds, so it's time we quit belaboring the point and allow this process to move forward before we waste too much time and our current hospital not be able to withstand the financial strains prolonging this decision would make.

I so agree with you because...last week when the meeting was canceled because of the code violation that the board would be in if going thru with that meeting.....well when driving by the UCMH there were cars everywhere.....not a place even across the road at the doctors office to park.......so if the meeting was canceled why all the cars? noway was that many people there for medical treatment

I can understand and maybe even agree with some of what you said, and I appreciate you actually giving an intelligent response. What I dont agree with is him just flat out saying that the public will not be allowed to make comments at all. It is not his place to say so on that matter in my opinion. I also just DO NOT agree witht he fact that people can hold closed door meetings about matters that directly affect the lives of me and my children. They shouldnt be allowed. It makes it seem like something is being hidden for whatever reason. Add on top of that the problem this county seems to have with corrupt officials and those in power constantly trying to screw over the little people and it makes you wonder why the hospital got into such financial trouble to begin with. All these are legitimate reasons for me to doubt just about any official in this county.

Tilson has tried to keep the public out of this from day one,he has a million reasons why too.Money changes people,it turns into greed and he has done nothing but try to force MSHA on us so he can collect for his Dr. Monroe charity.

If this board takes into consideration what the majority of the citizens of Unicoi County wants, there is no way they could vote for MSHA! We would end up with nothing, they monopolize all health care. Competiton is good.....Wellmont would build us a hospital and keep the employees of UCMH. And also keep the long term care unit open. NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK UP AND MAKE THE BOARD MEMBERS LISTEN

Well as of right now at the next meeting, the public are not going to be allowed to make comments or voice their opinions. Hard to make anyone listen if you cant speak your mind. Thats why I am having such a problem with this Glenn Tilson. Doesnt seem right to me the way he is conducting himself.

If Mr. Tilson says no comments are allowed, then appeal to a higher power - whomever that may be. The hospital board surely should, not only listen to, but seriously take into consideration, people's comments. Whatever happened to the democracy this country was built on? It is high time to take on Mr. Tilson and those that think they have command and control.

So how much longer do you and others want to delay the hospital board from taking action. I think it's pretty clear that "the people's voice had been heard". There are signs all over this county for Wellmont, there are petitions circulating around and being signed, a 3-hour meeting was held at the Middle school and numerous people voiced their opinions and concerns, there have been countless other hospital board meetings where people have attended and voiced concern, there are Facebook pages and Facebbok comments, there have been letters to the editor in the Erwin record and there was a rally downtown and at IGA. Tell me what is left to be said? I'm not being mean or hateful, but really what else can you or I say to change their minds. While this vote is being delayed our hospital is continuing to barely scrape by and citizens of this county are not receiving the care they could receive from either hospital. So, I say it's about time we allow the democratic process to happen. Let the hospital board vote. Lets remember too that the members of the hospital board are appointed by the people WE elect to office in this county and in Erwin.

And by the way, I am a ucmh hospital employyee-and am a Wellmont supporter, but most of all I am a Unicoi county supporter. We need this vote behind us so we can move forward. We need a strong financially secure hospital.

No matter who buys it we aint' gettin nothin more than a glorified emergency care. You are a bunch of idiots if you think this little fart of a county can support a full service hospital and even more stupid if you think enough people from other places will come over here to this podunk town to get treatment. All the red neck progress killers who have kept this place from growing will just have to get used to driving 20 to 30 miles for a decent hospital cause that's how it's goin to be til hell freezes over. Look around fools this is a dying community!

MSHA, as part of their proposal for buying the Erwin facility, has promised a one million dollar grant to start a foundation or to fund an existing foundation.
As Mr Tilson and/or his wife serves on the Harmon L. Monroe Foundation, Inc., it seems a blantant conflict of interest that he is involved in this vote at all. One wonders if he is not positioning himself to reap some or all the benefits of the above-mentioned grant.
And I was told, but have no first hand knowledge if the statement is fact, that Mr. Brackins, another hospital board member, has a son who is employed by MSHA.
Given the board's attempts to meet in secret, & given the above gentlemens' positions, it would seem that they are likely already in the pocket of the MSHA group.
In any situation, anywhere, if large sums of money are bandied about, you can bet that there will be those postioning themselves to take advantage.

Other than the obvious conflicts. Wegman has a direct conflict. Why do you think the vote is set for the 28th? Tilson's term expires the 30th. As for the others if they don't want the tax money to stay in Unicoi County then everyone should go to other towns to buy there vehicles and shop. How much tax money will be lost when MSHA starts sending everyone to Johnson City?

I think they were appointed, and maybe even a few appointed themselves rather than being voted upon.

Hospitals are exempt from taxes. They do not pay sales tax and hospitals do not pay property taxes either. The benefit to the county is the care they provide to the citizens. The economic benefit is the jobs they provide and the additional development that will come in next to them. Doctor offices do pay property taxes.

Since the hospital is a community owned hospital the members of their board are appointed by the people we elect to office in Unicoi county and Erwin. Sue Jean Wilson, Jimmy Erwin and Todd Love were appointed by Unicoi County Mayor Greg Lynch. Glenn Tilson, Russell Brackins and Roland Bailey were appointed by Erwin Mayor Brushy Lewis. Dr Wegmam is the chief of staff at the hospital so he gets an automatic seat. Who ever is in the position gets that board seat. Dr Colinget was for years.

The problem with this board now and always has been that theses mayors appoint their friends to this board and they know nothing about how to run a hospital but they are there making major decisions. None of these 6 have any healthcare background. Tilson was military, Brackins was IRS agent, Love is a car salesman, Wilson a school teacher, Erwin a county cop and Bailey at Nfs. They weren't experienced with how to run a hospital.
