Great, frozen junk and sodium filled boxed garbage and next we're gonna hear about how fat we all are... try buying healthy, fresh foods for a family of 4 under $70 or so a week, it can't be done...

I agree with your post to a point; many of the items listed are full of sodium which creates blood pressure problems for adults. As far as frozen junk...well, I would not be that cruel but they ARE also sodium loaded. My family eats protein, nuts, fruits and vegetables; very little dairy and no starches. They have boxes that contain just meat but you are required to purchase the regular box first. Too bad they do not start offering boxes that are healthier, even if those were a bit more money. It is getting very hard to buy healthy...produce is out of site at some stores. |

Well to tell you the truth - there is nothing that is processed that is good for you so unless you do nothing but make your own food from scratch you are faced with watching labels and your personal intake. If you eat things in moderation and exercise you will not have to worry too much about what is in the Angel Food Box or what you buy in the grocery store. Furthermore - it is more expensive to eat the "Healthy" stuff.
Angel Food does offer a balance of meats and vegetables, and other staples to get by. They have an assortment of Fresh and Frozen goods and Meats. There are fresh and processed fruits in almost every box. Yes you have to get the box to purchase the Meat packages but it is still a good deal. People will buy what they can afford. Just last month they had a bag of oranges that valued out at $5 when you priced them against the cost at Super Wal-Mart! Angel Food does work to try to balance out the monthly menu so that they are not loading people up with sodium. I am glad that this program is available to offer an alternative to the McDonalds value meals and the cheap TV Dinners that most people can only afford anymore. Have you tried to buy a steak lately? Before you knock down the program- give it a chance. There are many, many people out there that really love the program and use it regularly. |

You are so right about processed foods...why are there so many chemicals? And shouldn't the product you purchase be the first ingredient? My family has changed our eating habits and most items I make from scratch (salad dressings, sauce, etc.). I am not knocking the program, I am just saying to purchase the regular box does not fit my needs...I would be more interested in meat, fresh fruits and vegetables. I would even be willing to pay a bit more for that convenience. I map out my grocery stores to get the best deals when possible but with gas being what it is, it would be nice to pick up a box and then add to it where needed. FYI: Market at the Square has great meat prices, especially the strip steaks when they are on sale. |

Listen, I'm not knocking the program as much as I am saying it doesn't necessarily fit my needs. I want to feed my 2 babies fresh fruits and veggies that taste good, and I was not thrilled with the produce selection I bought. But as an afterthought, I did buy from a church in Gowanda, not at Caz. Is there a difference?
I'm not knocking it... it pulled us through a rough patch a while back! I would just like to say I want to go to Tops and not pay through the face for produce, dairy, whole grains and skinless chicken and other healthy things I feed my kids. The disgusting On-Cor frozen junk and boxes of cookies I got in my last package made me just go back to the store and spend the extra cash to get what we'll eat. |

Well I am very sorry that you had a couple items out of the 18 items in that menu that you did not like in your box when you got your Angel Food. But the old adage that you cannot please everyone rings true in your statements. Jesus couldn't even do that so I do not think that we can either. We just do our best to share the ministry with others and offer the boxes to everyone. Our host site has never misrepresented the items either.
As for the items in any given box that you may not like, you always have the option of asking if there is a substitute or passing it on to bless someone else who may not have enough to get by and would appreciate anything that is given in love. Also- I know for a fact that Angel Food is very sensitive to the comments of the people who order the boxes on a monthly basis. They strive to give high quality goods and will change items out of their program if they get complaints. We acknowledge that not all items are name brands that are recognized but the food is high quality. There are items that come from only down south that are so great we wish we could get them here. Quite frankly - for every 1 person who is unhappy with the box of Angel Food there are 10 people who are more than pleased with the value and products within. This is proven statistically by the monthly orders. I could prove it to you on any one of our distribution days. |

I will share these comments with Angel Food...I know that they are starting online ordering and with that program they are going to offer specials that are more fruit and vegetables and geared toward vegetarians…these specials may appeal to your needs and you could bless someone you know in your family or neighborhood by sharing Angel Food with them and ordering on with their box and you get the specials……I know AFM uses comments from the current and past patrons. I will be happy to impress on them again that there is a desire to see changes within the box. They are very receptive to these suggestions. |
