Erie use to be a nice place to raise a family about 20 years ago, now it is a scary place to raise a family. The gangs are infiltrating up Peach Street and the mall area. There are no job prospects and the people here are all rude and a bunch of rednecks. Born and raised here and can't wait to get the heck out of here once my youngest graduates. Not to mention the latest murder here either. It has become a cesspool.

gmaw,I don't think it's just bad in erie, heck the whole world is going to the slum's,I guess your right thought, because when you go to walmart in here most people are rude there compared to the north east walmart.

The only thing wrong in Erie is .....
1) People dont stand up for what they want and need, they only complain to each other.
2) People continue to vote straight party tickets instead of who might be promising, or at least voting out the idiots.
3) They allow power mongers to walk all over them. They dont protest, form committees to fight back, sue for violations of their rights.
Erie's a cute, fun, resort-type of town--it should be making money all year round. its too bad the politicians you voted in ruin it all.
But think about it, its not just Erie but every city in Pennsylvania.
Why do you think Florida has no state tax, and no emissions inspections, etc. They fought back.

Hey gmaw you're stealing my thunder ! I'll give you credit for this however, you're not afraid to speak the truth no matter how many others don't want to hear it. I especially like your statement " Born and raised here and can't wait to get the heck out of here once my youngest graduates. " Wow, are you sure you're not me using another name on these posts ? Hmmmm, intriguing.
Anyway welcome to reality but be prepared for replies questioning why you are still here then. Most can't understand the concept of having options and waiting just a little while longer before exercising them. Those are the ones who, unfortunately for them are stuck here with no chance to try something better.( They get pretty ugly when you tell them that and besides, I do enjoy tickin' them off !)

Erie has crummy weather for 6 months out of the year. There is nice things the town could have developed along the bayfront but never has. Also, a big part of the bayfront area is utilized by our waste treatment center, so you can get that nice fart smell coming off the bay. I'm even sick of the weather man tom atkins, the retard oftentimes gets the weather wrong and I'm tired of looking at his pale pasty face. Most of the people in erie are obese, its probably because stuffing your face is all there is to look forward to during the long terrible winters. You can even ask the owners of the furniture store amish buggy what their problem is, they might know because their whole entire family is fat and greasy and her husband doesn't even take the time to comb his greasy head. Eries sand isn't really sand, it is gravel that's been shipped in. Their block parites are fun but can be over patrolled with cops. Oh yeah, did I mention the weather sucks. Haha erie, what a joke. The quality of lifestyle is so low here, and it has to do more with the weather being bad than the money. Good for you if you like living here, you can have it.

Well, youre severely limiting where your next city is if you base it on crummy weather: Boston,Pittsburgh,Buffalo,Clev eland,Chicago,New York City, and any northern city in the United States will have snow for the same amount of time, Florida,Louisiana, and any states on eastern seaboard are targets for Hurricanes, which are worse than simple snow-Oklahoma,Arkansas,and Kansas are tornado targets( still worse than snow)-
California is prime target for earthquakes( again-worse than snow)- if you throw in fire ants, oil spills, heat index, and countless other factors, you can make anyplace seem less than perfect....
If you dislike it here, either campaign for change or get out.....not like you are the glue holding this city together

Hurricanes worst than snow, well depending on where you live in Florida that really isn't the case. The upper pan handle and southern most tip get hit the most. Also, at least with hurricanes you are told a week in advance if there is one coming, so you have enough time to evacuate. I understand you are just trying to rationalize like some of the people on this board, i live here too and am always trying to make the best of it. However, you guys that like it here good for you, but face the facts, most of the time even during spring it's overcast here. Being in a northern state and on the lake is what screws us most of the time, everything from snow to the cloudy days. I lived in other parts of PA and it wasn't nearly as bad. I use to like skiing a lot but anymore that isn't doing it for me. I'm glad there is people that like it here because if that wasn't the case, it would be that much harder trying to find affordable living down south. I want to live somewhere I can golf and go boating year round, and am in the process of moving out of this shit hole.

So much for owning a nice car in Erie too, the roads here suck ass. You're pretty much obligated to own a truck up here if you want to get through all the snow and not bottom out your vehicle. Honestly, the negatives to living here far out weigh the positives. It is true, you can make the grass look greener living somewhere else. But come on!! I really have to believe some of you really are brain washed..

Yeah the weather sucks sometimes, but if you live here and arent retarded, you know how to drive in it,although ironically-I just lost a strut due to Erie Pot Holes post, damnit!!!
Cost of living aint bad, central location,if you have decent job it aint shabby, got a lake-guess Im brainwashed, sue me-Ive seen worse

The responses of the first page of comments prove just how crappy most Erie people really are. They think they're hard with their "just leave" comments. You can't just walk into another city with no funds, just *like that*. You'd starve or freeze to death. Some people are stuck in places they'd rather not be, just let them vent.
Especially when that venting is all true.
Complaining about something is the first step toward making a difference. Maybe YOU should all "stop whining". And while you're at it, stop "talking tough" because news flash, you're not that tough. You're a bunch of ghetto trash, white trash, and a few psychotic homeless gay crackheads who follow 15 year old boys down State St. trying to rape them. BTW I've been to San Francisco and the gay community there is WAY less aggressive/scary than the gay community in Erie, even though they form a good quarter of the population in SF.
I have never bit hit on by them (they wouldn't DARE) but my 13 year old nephew was harrassed TWICE on State. St. by gay adults. I warn you, there is a gay community in Erie and these are NOT the well-dressed educated gay men who become interior decorators. They are predators.
I'm visiting Erie right now, seeing my relatives. I used to live here till I moved to North Carolina. I feel the pain of all the people who are trapped here in this negative, hateful environment.
People in NC are more progressive even in the most rednecky areas. And no, Erie is not "conservative" like some misinformed people will state, but it IS backward, mean-spirited, etc.
In Cleveland we had REAL gangbangers who could knock the CRAP out of any of you fake ghetto wannabes in Erie. And the funny thing is, the REAL gangbangers in Cleveland didn't ACT as tough as you fake gangbangers in Erie do, they just WERE tough. They didn't talk trash like Erie people talk trash to everybody. They were people who you could just *chill* with, and relax, and have a good time.
Every single thing that comes out of most Erie people's mouth is a negative put-down, trying to make themselves feel *tough*. They would get killed in Cleveland for the crap they talk. I am SO GLAD I moved to NC.
I am currently helping most of my family move out of Erie. I can't wait to see their lives improve as they get out of this hell hole. Listen to me people, yes, they say "there are ***holes everywhere", but those people have never been to Erie. No, not ALL places have as high a percentage of ***holes as Erie does. IN fact, most places don't have NEARLY as many ***holes per capita as Erie does.
There ARE places out there where people are more laid back instead of always trying so hard to be fake hard***es. There IS hope. If you are trapped in Erie, and I was there before so I know what its like, know that there ARE better places out there you can move to, you just have to believe in yourself and don't let the bastards get you down. Don't think that the entire world is this crabby and mean and obnoxious. There are *chill* people out there just like you in other places.
There are a FEW chill people in Erie but they are hard to come by because of the large percentage of ***holes. But just believe in yourself and know that the entire world is NOT like this. Yes there are ***holes everywhere, but there are plenty of places where ***holes are in the minority and where those ***holes are simply laughed at and shunned, instead of those ***holes being the mainstream as it is in Erie where the GOOD people are laughed at and shunned.
There IS hope. Just ignore the idiots, they're drunk all the damn time anyways. And not the fun drunks who listen to good music and have lots of sex either. The boring kind of drunks who just sit there and drink and repeat every sentence five times.
Just remember. I escaped. So can you. I feel your pain, but there IS hope.
I'm broke. Can I move in with you?

The city just never updated when it should have. The funds were there once upon a time but then crooked politicians swooped in. There are a lot of people who try to do good for Erie and the others around them, but lets face it, this will always be the last place to do anything, it will always be the last place i will want to live. I have a few friends born into "well off" families and the only reason they don't mind Erie is because they live on the outskirts in the rich neighborhoods where they don't have to worry about spending money to enjoy the many overpriced activities in Erie. I don't want this to be entirely negative so i will say that there are a few things Erie does have to offer. Presqe Isle is amazing in the summer, waldamere is great fun, and saras campground is awesome. I plan on moving in a few years but those few things will always bring me back to visit.

Erie has on the average more snow than Anchorage Alaska. Erie is cold 6 months, rains for 3 months and hot for 1 month. That leaves 2 months of maybe??? good weather days. Just long enough to put the boat in the lake and get it wet. Companies have slowly pulled out and the ones that are sill operating would like to leave as well.
Erie and the political leftovers from Tullio days need to cut the budget and mop up the corrupt courthouse (soap opera).

erie sucks, it's cold and depressing, the job market is shit, it's all low paying crap, good thing about is erie i guess is that because it does suck to much it's not competitive, there's people with high power jobs in erie that could never hold a similar position in a different town, def lower standards and i guess that can be a good thing, it's just what kind of atmosphere your like, sometimes i miss the easiness of erie

I believe he was also arrested for having some guns, which he wasn't allowed to own. It seems pretty obvious that Ed is mad as a hatter, and that his presence is alarming to many Amish.
