Are you guys going to get off your butts and organize the TEXAS plant, or is the TWU and UAW going to take away dues from you at the new plant?

The EU is a joke, the aircraft mechanics at American are skilled, and there is talk in the local area that their union is going to organize the place.

Please do enlighten us on how the UE Rank n File union is such a joke, yet the TWU is mighty and powerful; didn't they concede to allow American to outsource a huge amount of work and cut a lot of the mechanics???
By all means, amuse us with the reasoning for your logic

There is NO locomotive plant in the world that is as good as Lawrence park. No plant could build QUALITY locos and as many as we can. It just proves that it takes decades and decades to stand where we are. As long as employees stay productive and we drive this company forward we will be in Erie until the end of time.

LOL.. The building is 1,000,000 square feet in space - bigger than all buildings in Erie COMBINED. All under one roof. Great work flow.
Designed in 2011 NOT 1911 like Lawrence Park.

I sincerely hope GE keeps locomotive construction in Erie but their actions do give cause to question this function will remain in Erie.
Considering all the other companies who have left Erie & the actions they took prior to leaving should make even the most ardent GE loyalist wonder.
As for Texas , they are a right to work state & as long as any company there offers wages & benefits which are competitive with the norm & treats the people well will more applications for employment then they can handle. It is also true a majority of those who are hired will never unionize as long as they are treated fairly.
I think the workers at GE had better pay attention & be prepared for a need to compromise or watch the locomotive division move out once the Texas facility is ready for full operations.
Far to many other Erie company workers did not read the tea leaves & sadly watched their companies leave Erie. GE workers ought to look around at their co-workers & realize many of them are displaced workers from companies which have already left Erie.

Agreed Stan but I would go further and say that it is pretty much a done deal. Why else would GE devote time and revenue to a project like this unless there was more to it than what they released to the public? Not only is Texas a right to work state but it enables GE to farm out work to Mexico when the non-union employees decide they want more of the profit pie or try to Unionize. The writing has been on the wall since NAFTA was enacted back in the early 90's. Those who laugh and point out how much Steris failed when they moved to Mexico, don't realize that even though those jobs may be coming back to the US, they AREN'T coming back to Erie. So did they really fail? They broke the Union and will probably be paying lower wages in Mentor Ohio.

Mr Chips .....It is more then likely if the Steris plant in Mexico comes back to the US those jobs will end up in Montgomery Alabama where they already have a facility & are putting on an addition.

As for Ge farming work out to Mexico....they already have tried that with very poor results, besides the ongoing & accelerating drug wars make for a lousy work site.

There is lot of skilled labor in the area. The current trend is to get rid of the Union plant and build a new plant with tax incentives, grants, abatements, etc. Everyone in this area has an A & P license and is in a union friendly area, although in a anti-union state. It will be interesting to see what happens. The are is full of machinists, weldors, and skilled labor.

Yeah, not as if everyone here doesn't have same background here, except the A&P part- and both battery plant and engine plant are up this way, those aren't moving anytime soon either, but i could definitely see the BNSF's being done there to say in least; that would only make sense; anything else falls under the same problems of getting properly made parts, or getting parts on time......GE isn't too brilliant in that aspect

BNSF has rail service and Alliance Airport is a Fed Ex hub and major cargo area. The parts will be there on time, but will they be made right?
