Well where can I start. I went there when I was in 3rd grade. The teacher told me that I was a big fat head. I am a hydrocephalic transvestite now so she was half right. Also, my mommy is a dummy.

First school to ever have a 16 year old in the 5th grade.

The dirty secret about many, if not most of the city public schools is that very little is actually taught or learned throughout the typical school day. So many kids are products of such damaged and apathetic homes that there is very little hope of conducting education as should be expected.
Whether it's because kids are absent too often, come to school horribly prepared, cause excessive behavioral problems, or show complete lack of respect to teachers, other students, and education in general, these issues are so incredibly pervasive in city public schools that they cannot be overcome. Yet the taxpaying public is always shielded from the truth concerning the daily operations inside these schools.
With very few exceptions kids come away alarmingly ill prepared to properly behave and compete in today's market. And we keep wondering why Erie continues it's rapid downfall ! There's a definite correlation involving home situations, education outcomes, and community viability. Amazingly most of Erie fails miserably in making that connection.
Sadly, most Erie city public schools have morphed into warehouses. They've become large tax payer funded buildings that, according to state law, must house kids ages 6 - 18 for a mandatory 180 days each year under the supervision of licensed adults. Maintaining acceptable standards of civil order has become the number one concern. If any constructive academic learning should actually take place, which rarely occurs, it is considered a bonus.
Too bad most people are completely unaware of this. But then most people around here don't care anymore anyway.

The same problems exist at the County level too. I chose to send my kids to St. Boniface. While pointing out flaws in the system on this forum, I was chastised for calling out the troubled children who had "special needs" and were disrupting the classes. Now children with "special needs" are put under the same umbrella as the physically handicapped and the mentally challenged. In doing so, these children are viewed with compassion and sympathy and they are simply victims of nothing but poor parenting.
Be careful how you post because if you don't have a psychology degree, you have no right to have an opinion about this on these boards. At least according to "Cheetos".
If you are reading this Ms. Cheetos, I couldn't be happier with the education my children are receiving. I have no problem dropping them off and picking them up either. I wish you well in life but as I can see, you have no life since you are STILL actively posting daily on these boards. Lot's of love sweetie:-)

Oh, not YOU again, you shameful excuse for a parent and adult. You were called out before because you posted the NAME, AGE and SCHOOl of a special education child on this public forum. That is against the law and you should have been sued by that kid's parents. It is completely immaterial if you agree or disagree with a kid's identification as having a disability, and if you don't like the education your kids got at Wattsburg you have the right to put them in a parochial school. After all, your kids are also the object of sympathy here, with a callous, irresponsible parent such as yourself. And no, I do not have a psych degree. But I do have one in law enforcement. You were wrong, lady, and you would do well to shut your mouth right now.

Learn to read. She was a "special needs" student and not in "special education" which everyone feels is the same thing. It isn't.
So you're in law enforcement eh? Nice intimidation tactic. Should I be scared? I'm not. What would you charge me with? Last I knew, posting a persons name via internet is NOT a crime. You'll have to do better than that hon. You're still mad that you couldn't do anything but sit behind your computer and read. I will say this, if I broke ANY laws and you are in law enforcement and you saw what was going on and you did nothing then you are a sorry excuse for a representative of the law.

Hey, moron, learn to read yourself. As in Chapter 14 of the PA School Code, the Individuals withDisabilities in Education Act, and the Americans with Disaviliteis Act "Special needs" children are those with one of 12 verified handicapping conditions who then receive Special Education services from their public school. You are a jerk.

You simply need to contact the forum moderator and demand that the poster be barred from posting for breaking the terms of service. If the moderator does not you can seek legal action against topix and specifically the moderator (which is a paid positon). Go above the moderator and Topix will simply fire the moderator and ban the poster to avoid any conflict. Make sure they ban the posters computer IP address and not just the posting name.

In response to the original question, there is no reason to believe that PBS is any better or worse than would be expected of a financially challenged urban district with the student demographics of that area.

Yes, at the expense of the average kids. You call that fair? They are disruptive and should not be mainstreamed with the regular kids. That was my issue. I have no problem with special needs or children with handicaps getting an education. I have a problem with their inclusion into the classrooms with my kids and when they disrupt my child's chance to learn.

What a joke. Don't you mean Problem temporarily solved? First off if I got banned I simply use Tor or a proxy service. Next, what legal action can be taken against the moderator? For what, because I hurt someones feelings? Yeah, good luck with that.
I love when posters come on here and throw around legal-speak in an attempt to intimidate someone. Not working though.
Have a nice day sweetie!

We all note that you cannot deny the fact that the state and federal statutes clearly define special needs criteria, which the little girl, whose name you so carelessly tossed around on an Internet forum, meets. You have the right not to agree with the laws, or even not like them, but neither gives you the right to violate them. It is reprehensible that you would post an eight year old protected students name like you did and obviously you have still not learned any better.

If you go back to your original post, Sweetie, you'll find that I was not the only one to disagree with your actions. You had the nerve to post a child's name and not yours. As far as we were concerned you should have been prosecuted for your actions! If I was that child's parent I would have sought legal action immediately. You are despicable, Sweetie.

Once again, what laws did I violate? I gave my opinion and it's not illegal to post anyones name via this forum.
Nice try Skippy.
Cheetos, I just mentioned your name. Did you win more money? I sure hope so because you sound like you need it. I'll even keep posting just so you can get more money.
