Belmondo's foolish "Showboat" journalism

Did anyone else catch WJET news guy David Belmondo's latest effort to make local journalism an even bigger laughing stock than it already is?

It was only a year or two ago that Belmondo used himself as a guinea pig in a very risky experiment to see what happens to a human body after it's locked in a steaming hot car for a long period of time. The idiot literally looked like he was at death's door after his prolonged session in an extremely hot car--just in time for some local medical "professional" to check his vitals, blood pressure, heart, etc---not too smart for a man of his age. What if he had had a heart attack or stroke? Did the brain trust at WJET ever think of that?

Fast forward to the present: This past weekend Belmondo decided he'd get into the Guiness Book of World Records by setting a new world record for "the longest time on a Ferris Wheel"---31 hours.

He decided to accomplish this to coincide with Waldameer's grand opening. There was just one problem: The weather in Erie was very cold and windy this past weekend. That means it was even colder way up on that ferris wheel, which sits atop a tall bluff facing Peninsula Drive.
In fact, it would have been absolutely freezing up there.

Belmondo already sounded quite horse and well on his way to being sick when an obnovious, giggling Mike Holden interviewed him for the 11 o'clock news Saturday night. And then, to make matters even worse, Dave claimed he took almost no breaks during the first 12 hours, breaking for a grand total of 9 minutes in 12 hours to get off the ride and run to the bathroom. Not too smart of a thing to do for a man of his age. Ever hear of blood clots in the legs from so much prolonged sitting in such a cramped space? Did his employer or Waldameer ever think about that?

Those Gondolas aren't even enclosed as they are at other parks. Nothing wrong with that as it adds to the fun of the ride. But that feature also means it is NOT the kind of Ferris Wheel for someone to be allowed to attempt such a foolish stunt. What if he fell off? Seems strange that a park that was haunted for many years by the memories of another person falling off a ride would have permitted itself to become a part of the kind of "showboat" journalism Belmondo likes to engage in.

What an idiot.

It's all good. Nothing 5 hours in a local ER getting administered IV fluids in the early morning hours of Monday can't cure. He's sick as hell right now but at least he is no longer dehydrated. Waldameer is tickled pink, as if WJET. They all get mentioned in the Guinness book right along with Erie's own "Super Dave" Belmondo.

What a joke!

What a joke! What was he thinking trying to break this foolish world record? OHHHH that's right... He did the whole entire event for chairty. Dave Belmondo raised over $5000 for the John kanzuis cancer foundation. Being a cancer survivor I am appalled and sick by your stupid comments calling this man an idiot. David has raised money for march of dimes, Shriners hospital and so many other chairties. He may be a little goofy, but he is a hero in my book! If you have anything bad to say about someone trying to raise money for such a nice foundation, maybe you should ride the Ferris wheel, have it stop up top and do the world a favor and jump off

Every time I saw he was sitting & not in motion or did he just have to be on it period?
Yes he raised $ yaaaa but like the united way, the money goes into pockets of the board & what's left then is dispersed.

You're missing the point. Everyone knows that raising money for any worthwhile cause is a good thing. But Belmondo made himself a liability not only for his employer but also for Waldameer. What he did was dangerous and foolish. Just look at the weather aspect alone! The fool pulled his little stunt on what will probably be the coldest park day of the season. He could have easily done it at a different and warmer time. And if he got awfully sick than either his family or some medical person has to take care of him.

And for what? A stupid stunt??? It made no sense.

But no, of course not. The guy is an attention seeking whore and first-class goof!

I heard JET paid Waldameer $25,000 for their "inconvenience" of having to pay someone the whole 30 hours that goofball was on the Ferris Wheel and for the expense of keeping the park open.

Not often easy to understand. Not much charisma either.
