Project Stalled; Authority considers another developer

"With only one Union Station town house sold and deadlines missed by Pittsburgh's Fourth River Development LLC, the Erie Redevelopment Authority has talked about getting a new partner."
But Kim Green apparently still believes in the Union Square housing and retail development, even though the project is stalled. Realize they planned for 140 town houses, and sold one.
Now the authority is in a position where it can no longer hold on to the land, due to a debt the authority incurred of about $900,000.00.
Green does think that "their approach to the project might be worth reconsidering."
Watson said that the prices of the town houses which range from $170,000.00 to $259,000.00 might be too high, and noted that the Mercantile Building units were about half as high.
For Green though, the question seems to be how long can the status quo continue.
This is exactly what some, myself included, predicted when the project, and price ranges were announced. To those who ridiculed the predictions then, feel free to continue now.
As I have pointed out more than once, Ron White is right. You can't fix stupid.

That would be better than what they have revealed for West Erie plaza so far. They made it possible to turn an eyesore into a modern eyesore.

Mercantile was dismissed as a stupid idea. "Who would ever want to live next to the train tracks?!" Well, they sold 14 units. It took a while, but they sold. Be patient folks.

LOL. Kim Green IS the status quo in Erie. An incompetent Sarah Palinesque buffoon given a job she was never even remotely qualified for - all because her mommy is friends with Joe Sinnott's mommy.

Isn't this all part of the mayor's plan to revitalize downtown. It's Joe's plan isn't it? His pals are now all in place at the redevelopment agency. He owns this failure. This is his juice plant. Except it's cost Erie millions.

And when is Green going to move downtown if it's so goddamn great? Same goes for the old downtown now director Sandberg. Money....mouth....

Kim Green worked for English and Specter and is an unapologetic Ebert Beeman supporter.

Joe Donuts publicly motherf***ed Steny Hoyer and Joe Sestak when they were in town, so that makes him a big democrat? Joe's a faithful follower of brother John Birch.

Oh come now. Kim is not a buffoon, just completely underqualified to be an effective executive director of a redevelopment authority. I heard she is a nice lady though.

Specter ended up dying as the corrupt piece of crap democrap he was. The city of Erie is totally machine democrat controlled and Green is no exception. All of you ignorance will not change reality dipshit.

According to their website, There are 6 or 7 people employed at the Redevelopment Authority. How in the heck can the Mayor justify paying the executive director a compensation package exceeding $100K for overseeing an organization of such a small size? All they do is some housing rehab and lead hazard remediation.
Seriously now, does paying such a salary not seem like a colossal, huge waste of taxpayer dollars?

How can they explain a benefit package for Kim Green worth $100k +??

Easy....Easy.... This is just "Jobz for the Boyz" with no benefit and no accountability, whatsoever...

Do you really think that these expensive townhouses in that lousy location would have been started w/o gubberment money ??

board all appointed by Joey Donuts:

Gregory Baldwin - developer that abandoned Erie getting inside information about city development projects. major conflict of interest. but who cares right?

Richard Bordonaro - workmen's compensation (anti-worker) lawyer at Joe Sinnott's brother's law firm.

W.L. Scheller - Gannon dean of engineering

Jimmy Jackson - banker (aka denier of credit to credit worthy people)

Christopher Mong - Joey Sinnott's BFF and Flo Fabrizio's nephew.

and you want to know how Kim Green is paid $100,000 to "oversee" 8 of Joey's friends?

BTW, they own the failed condo project. 4 more years.

God, gives us back Mike Cannavino. You can have Sinnott.

This morning, Pat Cuneo's column headline reads "Market issues verdict" and he goes on to point out that the market is not going to buy those condo's at the prices being charged.
After several paragraphs of pontification, including his admission of his support of the project, he concludes that perhaps they would be better off offering rental units, that are more affordable.
Exactly what some recommended before this fiasco was started.
Shame the paper didn't listen before. This is an example of why some of feel they are as much a part of the problem, as those elected to office.
