Gov. Corbett fundraisers differ from turnpike scandal:'There's no quid pro quo'

PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE: PAY-TO-PLAY SCANDAL
AG agrees, Orth-Rodgers contract not part of turnpike scandal: PennLive lettersEven after the scandals, campaign finance reform is a non-starter in Pennsylvania: analysisGov. Corbett fundraisers differ from turnpike scandal:'There's no quid pro quo'Have Pa. Turnpike defendants already missed their best chance to walk?Pa. Turnpike corruption defendants' optimism ended quickly, with all 6 headed to trialAll Stories | With his re-election campaign just getting underway, a sitting Pennsylvania governor held a fundraiser hosted by some of the most influential engineering and design firms in the state.

In the three months before that fundraiser, and the three months after, six of those firms received $36.2 million in contracts from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. One of the firms, a "silver sponsor," went from having no turnpike work to holding more than $8 million in contracts.

Firms on the host committee also got $13 million in work from other state agencies over that same six month span.

No, this is not part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission pay-to-play corruption case playing out in the courts. This wasn't the now-infamous 2006 fundraiser for then-Gov. Ed Rendell.

It was "an evening reception honoring Gov. Tom Corbett" on Nov. 20, 2012, at the Harrisburg Hilton's Golden Sheaf Room. Platinum sponsorships went for $5,000, gold sponsorships cost $2,500 and silver were $1,000, bronze a measly $500.

It's Not Just the Penn State Scandal That's Hurting Pennsylvania's Governor

Tom Corbett can't catch a break.

Pennsylvania's Republican governor rode the tea party wave to the governor’s mansion in 2010. But since then, a failure to rally conservatives, a scandal at Penn State, and his national anonymity have made him one of the most vulnerable Republican governors up for reelection in 2014.

The most recent Quinnipiac University poll shows his approval rating stuck at 36 percent, while a 51 percent majority of Pennsylvanians believe he does not deserve reelection. Corbett could be the first Keystone State governor since 1970 not to win a second term. This comes at a time when other Republican governors in blue states — such as Chris Christie in New Jersey, Scott Walker in Wisconsin, Terry Branstad in Iowa, and John Kasich in Ohio —are looking in much better shape.

Sadly, some things never change.

And likely never will.

Which is why the GOP is destined to be a permanent minority party in this country. LOL!

Meanwhile, in other news from the head against a brick wall crowd:

House GOP To Hold 40th Obamacare Repeal Vote

House Republicans plan a 40th attempt at repealing Obamacare next week, with legislation that would block the Internal Revenue Service from enforcing or implementing any portion of the health care reform law.

It is only fitting that Republicans would waste the last week at work this summer voting for the 40th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act and continue their record of no jobs bills, no budget agreement, and no solutions for the middle class.

More wasted time & money ! LOL!

Why do Republicans hate Americans so much?

LMAO !

It seems that behind every tree stump, and under every rock, there lurks a republican saboteur who is hellbent on wrecking and destroying anything that will contribute to the common good.

They are doing this out of pure malice, greed, and spite. Since they offer absolutely no alternative to the ACA, except to let things get even worse under their current healthcare-for-obscene-and-imm oral-corporate-profit model, the only conclusion you can reasonably draw from this sociopathic behavior is that these republicans actually enjoy causing pain, suffering, and hardship to as many people as possible, especially the smart ones who choose not to vote republican.

Show me one iota of evidence to the contrary. Prove me wrong. Let's hear a cogent, sensible, humane republican alternative to the ACA.

Anyone?

Virginia Gov. Republican Bob McDonnell's reliance on political money to outfit his family with a lavish lifestyle is once again facing some major scrutiny. McDonnell's wife used campaign funds to keep herself outfitted in expensive clothing while the couple's on the campaign trail.

The Washington Post reports Maureen McDonnell used a Opportunity Virginia PAC credit card (since revoked) to spend $9,800 on expensive clothing from stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and Ann Taylor at a time when the couple's penchant for using political money to facilitate a comfy lifestyle is under an big microscope. Of course, like the suspect $15,000 worth of clothes from Bergdorf Goodman she received from a donor, these purchases were all in the interest of keeping up with her duties as Virginia's first lady:

Does this all sound vaguely familiar? That's because Sarah Palin did the exact same thing during her campaign as John McCain's vice president. It seemed Gov. McDonnell had buried his troubles once and for all when he repaid over $100,000 in loans and gifts he received from a key campaign fundraiser last week. But this new shopping spree revelation -- along with gifts like the use of a private jet, covering the catering at McDonnell's daughter's wedding, and a $15,000 Bergdorf Goodman shopping spree for McDonnell's wife from campaign donors -- will put the spotlight back on McDonnell's financial behavior.

A new CBS News poll finds more Americans than ever want the Affordable Care Act repealed.

According to the poll, 36 percent of Americans want Congress to expand or keep the health care law while 39 percent want Congress to repeal it - the highest percentage seen in CBS News polls. The poll also found a majority of Americans - 54 percent - disapprove of the health care law, 36 percent of Americans approve of it and 10 percent said they don't know about it.
