Update: Lou Dobbs to Quit CNN
By BRIAN STELTER AND BILL CARTER

Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network effective immediately, two network employees said.

A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program,“Lou Dobbs Tonight.” Wednesday’s program will be his last on CNN, according to one of the employees. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.

Mr. Dobbs informed his staff members of his intentions in a meeting Wednesday afternoon, catching some of the staffers off-guard. The anchor did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment.

Well known for his political positions, Mr. Dobbs is an outlier at CNN, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena. The CNN employees said Wednesday that they did not know if Mr. Dobbs was moving to another network.

Mr. Dobbs met with Roger Ailes, the chairman of the Fox News Channel, in September. At the time Mr. Dobbs was viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network. But a Fox spokesperson said Wednesday,“We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.”

Mr. Dobbs has been with CNN since its founding, save for a two-year stint at a Web site called Space.com . He has evolved over the years from a straight-laced business anchor to an outspoken commentator who rails against illegal immigration and taxpayer bailouts, among other subjects.

Lately, though, he has saved most of his opinions for his afternoon radio show, which made its debut in March 2008. It is on the radio show that he talked repeatedly about the conspiracy theory claims that President Obama is not a United States citizen. When he mentioned the citizenship issue on CNN over the summer, his bosses were forced to call it a “dead issue.”

More recently, Mr. Dobbs’ views on immigration provoked a protest by Hispanic groups. Members of the groups complained that CNN was allowing Mr. Dobbs “to spread lies and misinformation about us each night.”

Last month the New Jersey State Police were called to Mr. Dobbs home to investigate a report of gunfire. Mr. Dobbs suggested that his family had been singled out because of his views on illegal immigration and border security.

New York (CNN)-- CNN's Lou Dobbs is leaving the network, the anchor and commentator said Wednesday.

"Over the past six months, it has become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us," Dobbs said during his 7 p.m. broadcast.

Dobbs, 64, said he had discussed the issue with CNN President Jonathan Klein, who agreed to release him from his contract and "that will enable me to pursue new opportunities."

He said he was considering "a number of opportunities and directions."

He didn't really fit into a news category after he went off the deep end. He'd be so much more at home on Fox "News" with all the other conspiracy theorists. Fox actually has very little hard news - it's mostly personality-driven opinion shows at the lowest common denominator to get ratings.

According to the WSJ this morning, none of the Murdock properties have been negotiating with him. That would include Fox, Fox News and Fox Busniess News.

I think Sarah (I really can see Russia from my house!) Palin will take over and get her own "talk show"...most likely on Faux News, though. Faux is caught all the time by the other news networks with fake pictures of crowds which are supposed to be "teabagger" crowds. Faux news is FIXED NEWS just the way Rupert Murdock wants it!

CNN announced Thursday that his 7 p.m. weekday time slot will be filled in 2010 by a new show built around longtime CNN political reporter and anchor John King. The selection of King, who strives never to reflect personal ideological positions on the air, is more consistent with CNN's intended brand as a source of objective reporting.

John King is an excellent choice. He's consistently been a great reporter who can provide background and insight into a host of matters. He's more inthe mld of a traditional journalist.

He was on Fox Monday and he's still on the radio( and you don't need cable) it is too late to stop his message to real Americans about illegal aliens sucking our country dry,I never even heard of a illegal alien untill The Lou Dobbs show. The thing Americans have to do now is go after that Racist Oganization La Raza (the race, thier race only) and cut off funds from the Goverment,no tax money should go to a Racist Organization like La Raza. What ever happend to freedom of speech, what ever happend to"If you don't like it turn the dial? No Lou Dobbs is not gone,he is even bigger now then ever.Crank are you against freedom of speech? Are you a Nazi like Nancy Pelosi who wants to do away with talk radio?

Absolutely not. But the inference I was responding to was that somehow because he left CNN under liberal criticism that somehow automatically translated into him becoming an employee of Fox, like say, Glen Beck did, and that wasn't the case. Of course he may guest on a FOX program, as he has on others, but the fact that he guests on an existing show does not mean he is automatically part of Fox. Frankly compared to the liberal slant of most of CNN, his show could be argued as being moderate in comparison. It is a fact, none the less, that CNN is not now, nor ever been friendly to conservative points of view, as Ted Turner was as liberal as one could be right from the get go. Once he was gone the expectation for more moderation left however, as they seem to be more liberal now than ever, and won't continence even moderate points of view. You certainly can't begin to compare Lou Dobbs to Glen Beck, despite the liberal's sudden hatred of Dobbs. I believe all points of view should be heard, and that includes moderates and conservatives. You don't get that at most media outlets. At Fox you do. They have a number of liberals who participate in their opinion programs, like Juan Williams, Alan Colmes, and even Gretta is in my opinion a bit left of center on most issues. Hannity and Beck are conservatives, but O'Reilly I believe is pretty moderate in the vast majority of his commentary, which I believe is the chief reason behind his huge success as witnessed by his ratings.

Too bad Joe Aprio, (sheriff Joe) doesn't run for president, I would vote for him in a heartbeat. Someone mentioned he should go on CNN....hell no...CNN is way too liberal, that's why they wanted Lou out, he spoke truth and you can't have that with those limp wristed left wing nuts running the show in washington.
