It's amazing...the economy in Erie is terrible, there are no jobs to speak of and this place will put people to work.
It's been that kind of thinking that put Erie in the position that it's in.
Erie, PA
Group: 'We don't want it here'
More than 170 people sat in rapt attention through an hourlong science lesson at the East High School auditorium Tuesday.

The thinking of past industry that pollutes is simply not needed or wanted.

A choir of 170? people on the public dole packs some clout with the local pols.

First, they are talking 60-70 jobs, not 600-700. Until all the experts are heard, I don't think 60-70 jobs in a town of 100,000+ is worth the risk. Again, I said until all experts are heard (and evaluated). But being on a freshwater lake, we have to be extra careful. |

The science is solid that this plant will harm the community and ANYONE who investigates the information will understand Rubino has a responsibility to be open to debate. His experts will not teach you as "they" have a vested interest. They will not tell you which toxins will increase that they are not required to test-yet call it completely safe. It is an out and out lie and the public needs to call Rubino/ McCormick, the mayor and Thompson on these lies. "They" are cowards, and certainly need to answer to the public (they were a NO SHOW at the meeting).
Rubino and McCormick live in Erie-no excuse for their absence. |

you think this thing will equal out as far as employment? Absolutely not! Acid rain, pollutants, gasses out have an effect on: 1. the quality of living downwind. Homes won't be worth much over there and who would want to buy in that area? 2. the effect on the expansive grape crop and apple crop will be critical to tourism and production of Erie county wine. 3. loss of companies already on the eastside who said they will move out. I wouldn't want to call their bluff. These are just a few of many reasons not to have this. Would you want to have a couple silos (as in Perry, Ohio)? This would be similar as far as toxins. We have to use our heads on this and absolutely refuse this. I'm a west sider completely away from that area but sometimes mother nature plays tricks and reverses that old northwest wind. All Erie countians and New York residents should keep protesting. Isn't it all a coincidence that Rubino is never available for these informational sessions? He's a snake and always will be. I still say to demonstrate in his nieghborhood and drop a couple of tires off. He should have been to the meeting if he had to go by himself to hear what the public and the professionals had to say instead of trying to get people on his side to say the right things for his side. He can't! They should have already been in place. Remember, RUBINO is your key ingredient here.$$$$$ Put the pressure on him. He'll bend just ike he did in the Filippi trial...oh by thwe way, he lost that one too. |

You guys are great. I've never felt better about my decision to leave Erie as I do right now. Acid Rain? Wasn't that supposed to have killed 70% of life on earth by now. Oh, yeah. It wasn't as bad as the "experts" said it was. Grapes and apples? I want what he's smoking. And trust me, companies aren't going to uproot and move until they have calculated if this has an impact on their business. Bluff all the way. As a former east sider who grew up only blocks from Hammermill, I can't believe you clowns are protesting this. Hammermill was a monstrous polluter. Their waste water was so bad it had to be treated in seperate tanks at the waste water plant. Just keep fearing the "toxins" which are in everything we eat, drink and breath already. The exhaust of this place will be far cleaner that the waste that has been produced by your other large factories over the years. You should focus your efforts in more productive and constructive ways.
This reminds me of a somewhat famous movie quote that I want to suggest to you, "everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it." Go Erie, don't let the facts get in the way of your opinions, you never did before. |
What do you suppose causes cancer? And you want to play dumb. The information is not opinion. In your movie quote add "for having listened to ERE"-now everyone is dumber, as they hide themselves behind political clout. The true bluff is Rubino/McCormick and what they don't bring to the discussion which is scientific facts.

THIS GIANT INCINERATOR OF THE NATIONS CONTAMINATED JUNK IS NOT A JOB BUILDER, IT'S NOTHING MORE THAN MARKETING TONS POISON CLOAKED, IN A PRETTY WRAPPER. NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE CANCER IS KING, THEY DON'T HAVE TOO, BECAUSE OTHER CITIES ARE CLEANING UP, MAKING THEMSELVES ENVIRONMENTALLY ATTRACTIVE,DRAWING BETTER HIGHER END BUSINESSES WHO OFFER GOOD JOBS, NOT THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. LOOK AT THE TONS AND TYPES OF POLLLUTION FOR YOURSELVES ON THE NET, FROM TRUCKING IT, TO THE FIRES, TO PUFFING IT OUT 24/7....THERE'S NO ARGUEMENT, IT'S A LOOSER. THE POLITICIANS SHOULD CARE ABOUT THE CITIZENS, SCHOOLS, PENN STATE,FARMS, AND GE RIGHT IN THE THICK OF IT. BECAUSE AS I ALWAYS SAY, WHERE PEOPLE HAVE A CHOICE, THEY WON'T CHOOSE HERE. TIMES HAVE CHANGED, PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE IN A TOWN THAT RESPECTS THEIR HEALTH AND WELFARE. THIS IS MONEY FOR THE SCRAP INVESTORS, ECONOMIC DISASTER FOR THE GOOD CITIZENS OF ERIE, AND TONS OF TOXIC POLLUTION FOR EVERYONE FROM HERE TO CANADA.
THERE IS NOTHING GOOD IN IT FOR ANY OF US. |

How many of you that support the plant live by the proposed site?
The radius for pollution steaming out a 200 foot stack in a stiff wind could end up almost anywhere. The traffic and nearby pollution with rain filled tires and wastewater could have serious consequences for the entire region.
So, because it happened in the 60's and 70's, before we knew better, we should allow it to happen again because 50 or 60 people will get a job? Sorry, but I don't agree. I too grew up just east of "the Mill", just 3 blocks away. Between my house and the house next door, there were 5 cases of cancer. No one can tell me that what will be spewed into the air by incinerating tires will be "ok". NOTE: contrary to the location posted below my "name", I am from Erie. |

Such opposition makes one wonder why we have an EPA, which sets guidelines for safe operation of power plants, as does the DOE.
The people of Erie must figure the evil power plant would be built without the oversight of these agencies. I'll bet nobody would show up if the plant was fueled by oil or coal, yet these models have their own set of issues. Maybe Erie should be powered by Hot Air from the complainers. |
You think that this is the first business who has had opposition coming into Erie.
I am sorry that you don't realize what kinds of environmental controls are to be put into place when these types of businesses go into operation, but there are many books and papers on the subject. Second, unless you and the other "oh no, not in my backyard crowd" or "Erie is just fine the way it is crowd" have an idea on how to improve things in Erie and actually do it, you bear little weight to me. Erie is in need of a serious boost and it's not going to happen with the same thinking that got it in the position that it's is. In addition, if there is not some sort of stimulus, there will not be anyone left on the Lower East Side to care.

No Sean its been your kind of thinking thats gotten Erie were it is...jobs at the risk of pollution and health problems are not worth any amount of money
the same group of people that oppose it for cancer are lighting a smoke too.... |
Styrene is a benzene derivative and burning tires releases styrene and several benzene compounds, this is a human carcinogen. If you want to know more go to www.burningissues.org/tires
if site does not work, type in burning tires
COOL, THANKS !!! |
