A community group that's holding a series of public town-hall meetings about the fate of a senior center had hoped for participation from Millcreek supervisors.

But the supervisors won't be at the first session, starting tonight, and may not attend any of the other three scheduled this month either.

Representatives of the group holding the forums, Concerned Citizens of Millcreek, the current operator of the senior center, Meca Inc., and the senior center itself are expected to present arguments to keep the center open. The supervisors were invited to defend their pending closing of what's called the J.O.Y. Center.

But Supervisors Brian McGrath and Richard Figaski are on vacation today, and the third supervisor, John Groh, said he's not attending tonight's forum at 7 p.m. at the J.O.Y. Center, in part of the U.S. Postal Service branch building at 2711 Legion Road.

"I do not plan to go to any of them. The matter has been discussed and does not need to be discussed any further," Groh said Monday

Maybe these old people need to get their hearing aids checked. The decision to close the center is final. No more discussion. Move on.

We have the money in Millcreek, it is time to use our power and elect candidates that vote in our interest instead of the young punks and yuppies. It is time to get rid of jerks like McGrath who has done nothing for Millcreek except a 6 hole golf course. Figaski and Groh are a couple of rummies on a ego trip.

Go play some golf or go bowling instead of sitting on your behind, how about a walk around the beach or zoo? The J.O.Y. center was meant for gossiping about things you wish you would have done when you were younger & are jealous that the younger generation is doing it now. Pull some of that money out of your retirement fund & stimulate the economy instead of wasting tax money that should be going to rebuild the infrastructure.

Shut up, losers, the JOY Center pays my bloated salary...we....I mean, they old folk need our services and I need to eat more, put my kids on the payroll and funnel the money to my dying flower shop.

This is just terrible, the community should pull together and create a safe place to enrich it's grandmothers and grandfathers, the very people who built this community.

I think that we all agree that there should be a nice community gathering place for Seniors to engage in meaningful activities. I would like one if I live that long. I think the issue here is that the jokers running Millcreek Township have hidden agendas and have failed to earn the trust of the taxpayers, thus even if they try to do something good their intentions are questioned.

Further, hiring MECA, an agency long known for simply raising money for the sake of raising money and using very little to support people with disabilities other than build a wheelchair ramp once every few years. They have no management skills and are not qualified to run this center at all...unless their sole aim is to run a bingo game to generate more revenue. That is all they did when they owned their "offices" at 12th and Powell.

Perhaps Edinboro can provide space on the Porreco college campus and offer Elder Hostel classes/lectures/seminars to Seniors to keep their minds agile and interested in social and political issues.

Why all of a sudden the money is gone? No money for Joy Center, no money for streets, no money for sewer updates, and sell the water authority for millions but raise taxes?

Exactly. Millcreek used to a nicely run little township. Now there is secrecy, hide and seek playing with budgets and rampant arrogance.

What happened to transparency? My taxes go up but streets remain riddled with potholes?

Anyone want to buy a nicely kept home on a large lot so I can move out of Millcreek?

The JOY center was supposed to help my campaign but I lost the election anyway. Tough s$$t, you win some and you lose some. All this talk about the center is sour grapes by a loser.

Anytime the Eaton girl, Kaiser and Anderson get together, it's to pad their own agenda. These 3 don't have a clue except themselves - especially Eaton. What were their salaries out there? That should be a question not only of them, but of Mike Batchelor and his "non-profit" agency. And who is this pompous Rebecca Styn - she's full of herself too.

Why can't this center be re-located, like in the basement of a church or school?
All the seniors would have to do is chip in for lights and heat.
To you people who think seniors don't deserve this, wise up. If your lucky, you will be in the same boat one day.
Getting kicked to the curb isn't funny, furthermore, since these "seniors" paid taxes longer than you, why can't they speak up?
Groh should stuff it. He's the loser with a bad attitude.

No, you are all wrong. The truth is closing the center costs more at this point than leaving it open and exhaust the contract. The joy center is just a tenant of Millcreek township subleasing from landowner the USPS. Close the Joy Center and you incite a lawsuit by MECA which who cares who wins because both sides pay lawyer fees and Millcreek is already on the take for well over five million in lawyer fees right now for the cres trust and water authority. Evan, the solicitor, buys a new car instead of three years of contractual obligations voted by all the supervisors that actually benefit some senior citizens. Use these three years to learn how to fund, operate and self sustain a senior center for the long haul. Millcreek does have 16.6% of the population 65 and older vs 15% in PA and 13.2% in the US. And every other area....Corry, union city, North East, Meadeville, Ashtabula, Geneva, Madison....Erie...all have senior centers. Very easy decision. Spend the 330,000 for three years for MECA. The 320,000 for rent over four years is ironclad with USPS so that's a sunk cost.

Referring to what? The United States Post Office contract? Uhm are you an idiot? Do you think the already struggling USPS will just say "Oh, you changed your mind and don't want to live out the rest of your contract? No problem. Here's your money back" No they will say, "That's unfortunate but you signed a contract that Evan reviewed and voted on four times. Make sure your payments aren't late" Wake up people! Follow the god damn money. Who always sits back and collects after all these policy issues like cres trust, water authority, school district etc.....the solicitors and mainly Evan. John and Rick swore he was gone first thing after John was elected and then suddenly claim he's needed. Did they get an offer? Did he have something on them? Who cares point is he advises poorly on purpose because he and his buddies cash in on lawsuits. Wake up! You pay the god damn bills. Doesn't anyone in Millcreek have a spine anymore? Or is "because I said so" good enough now from our employees/elected officials.

Are you saying Evan has done more damage to Millcreek Township than can ever be imagined? Are you saying Evan has cost Millcreek millions in fees and damages?
