Man charged with knife attack on Millcreek bait-shop employee (Updated 4:50 p.m.)
Millcreek police say a 64-year-old man slashed the neck of a bait-shop employee this morning. They say the attack was unprovoked.

Thomas Schertzer has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of crime. He was arraigned before District Judge Denise Stuck-Lewis, of Edinboro.

Police say Schertzer, of 1414 W. 11th St., entered the B.A.C. Bait Shop at 317 Peninsula Drive at 10:38 a.m. He brought a filet knife and several other items to the counter.

As the clerk processed the sale, Schertzer grabbed the knife and cut him across the neck, police say.

The employee, David Gauriloff Jr., was taken to Hamot Medical Center. Police say he is in critical condition.

Schertzer fled in a gold-colored vehicle. Two sheriff's deputies stopped him a short time late

Hot lead between the eyes at the scene of the crime would've negated any need for such a question. How much taxpayer money will now be spent to discover the answer?

I know him and his family. He's a good guy. Not to say he's without problems, but who is? He doesn't remember doing it, or even know why he did it. I don't believe him to be malicious. I believe a neuron misfired, unfortunately, for all involved. His family is suffering as well as the victim and his family. People are so very insensative.

He could have vented his hate here at Topix. I'm handling dozens of whacks right now; breaking them two and three at a time. Have some repub send him an absentee ballot.

He's a good guy? He's a frigging dangerously psychotic madman that should never be allowed out of his padded cell. Take him something sharp the next time you visit, maybe he'll cut your throat, but not in a malicious way.
