When I was growing up in Erie, I envisioned becoming educated, married, starting a family and raising my kids and retiring in Erie. Erie was a great place to raise a family. It was easy to obtain a job. It had good public schools. It was relatively free of gang, drug and gun violence. Not any more!

Good jobs available was the key boy. But don't fool yourself. When there wasn't drug problems there was still alcohol problems not to mention police that turned a blind eye to dui's.

"When there wasn't a drug problems", there still were still drug problems. It just wasn't as in our face as it is now.

That's an interesting comment, because unless you are one hundred percent Native American, you come from immigrants yourself, the very people you blame for society's woes.

Oh my God does that card EVER get played out? Oh boo hoo hoo! We took the Indians land! It's called survival of the fittest. Red man stronger than white man, work harder! White man work smarter. It's nature's way of thinning out the weak and stupid.

More like, get your kids out of PA! Tom Corbett is nothing less than a racketeer that's infiltrated public office. He has been screwing Erie and every other little borough you can think of since he was first Attorney General in 1995. That's a long time. He is as ruthless as a Mafia Don when it comes to regular folks.

Wake up idiot. I left PA when that crook Rendell was Governor. Best move I ever made. As for Erie, it is a hopeless democrat cesspool.

Yes, if you are under 30 years old, and not connected enough (i.e, your last name is not Tobin) to get a government, university, healthcare, or non-profit job, GET OUT OF ERIE.

You only have to look at the new jobs that are being trumpeted:
A) The Harborcreek Truck Unloading Facility is no replacement for 1000 GE Factory Jobs.

B) Erie County guts the Health Department and uses the money to add 19 Prison Guards? That says volumes about Life in Erie.

C) Look at how powerful and how expensive the local Universities and Trade Schools are. Its no mystery that they stopped a Community College and that the Erie Powers that Be want you to borrow big bucks and give the money to them..

As a young person, it is difficult to get a good job in Erie. And, just as bad, it is very hard also to get a loan and to start a small business. No more Gas Stations, Body and Repair Shops, Welding/Fabricating, small Retail... Business Prospects are grim and likely to stay that way.

Don't waste your life scuffling in this place. Depending upon the type of skills and preferences that you have, I suggest saving some money (yes, at the service job) and going to Iowa, Colorado, Texas, Florida, or even California.

Unless the Erie GE plant completely folds people will retire, etc. Also, depending on how old your kids are now, after the coming layoffs and when those guys lose recall rights and the economy turns around, GE may well be hiring again. If your kids have prepared and made good for themselves in the mean time there may be very good paying jobs for them. Remember, GE is greedy up the butt and will fight for all the work they can get.

Of course if you think you're kids can't compete for those jobs or are impatient, well what does that say about your criticisms of Erie? That your kids are the problem.

I've never seen so many obese, pumpkin headed, fat-asses in all of my life who live in Erie. This is the result of no jobs, long winters, Obama Phones, EBT Cards, too many pizza shops, and a bar on every corner. Fat A$$ed, lazy, unemployed round heads. What really amazes me is how any man could climb on top of one of these fat heifers and make babies. You all know I'm right. Walk into any grocery store, Walmart, or fast food joint and see for yourself. A bunch of world class phat-a$$es. You morons wanted Obama...now live with his policies.
