Just heard from someone who works down at Erie Coke. That they never actually fixed the ovens they were supposed to. But just made the outer shell of it look new to try and pass the DEP inspections. So if anybody cares about what your breathin in around there. Have the Dep reinspect ovens 56 and 57. Along with I believe I was told 49 and 50. Also am hearing about alot more violation about asbestos and other toxins in and around that dump

Well, if you are hearing about this stuff, let's shut down the plant and put more people on the unemployment rolls! Do you know it is cheaper to buy a manhole cover made overseas because there aren't enough industrial coke plants here?

If what you say is true, tell your "someone" to call DEP and make sure their expert inspectors aren't fooled again by the "trick" outer shell ploy.

I worked at the coke plant for 2 years . Beyond being a large employer I think its also important to note that the coke plant employs dozens of convicted felons that would otherwise have difficulty finding work.

Yes that is true that they do have alot of jobs. But they also have a responsibility to their workers and the people that live in the area. When the workers try and speak up against the harmful stuff that goes on thier, they get fired. That is why my friend is actually starting to speak out. His friend who worked with him was just fired for speaking out against the safety violations. My friend has gone throughout the plant and taken pictures of these violations.

Erie coke is untouchable. It's been 7 years of front page violations and they are still pushing coke. Game over.
