A parent of a young kid who wants the best education for their child....vs....a retired person who could give a damn about the the quality and only about the taxes. People with experience with large budgets and proven success obviously is a crucial quality of any and all future members. Investing intelligently. Being creative and innovative. This is a business. The product is education. Good school district (especially elementary)= attractive competitive housing market= higher property values. You want to raise tax revenue? Instead of raising tax rates....increase the quality of the product(MTSD Education) & make Millcreek desirable so property values and thus property tax revenue increases.

Let me give you a clue here. ANYONE KID can choose to go to ANY SCHOOL in the county that is outside their home district. If they choose to do so, they have to pay tuition just like they would if they chose to go to a private. Villa has no advantage over anyone else. The McDowell kid who chooses to pay tuition and go to villa, could have just as easily paid tuition to go to Fairview or Girard or meadville.

It is true that a student can choose to attend any school they want IF they pay tuition. The big difference is that the coaches from the privates schools can actively recruit players from other areas, legally. Public schools cannot legally do that, or if they are caught doing that, there will be sanctions (not to say this doesn't happen). And, private school tuition can and will often be offset by scholarships, which a public school cannot offer. So, yes, there is a difference.
That being said, I don't blame Mr. Palermo for making a decision that he feels is best for his family.

Actually, you're wrong there. Coaches from private schools can freely speak to parochial school kids. Public school kids have to indicate that they are interested before any contact is allowed. They indicate their interest via attendance to open houses, filling out questionnaires, or some similar way.

Just as many kids statewide are refused as tuition students each year as are accepted at public high schools in Pa. Reason? The student or family must prove there is an academic offering in the out of district school not present in the home schol district.

Um nice try piss ant. Shouldn't you stay off this sight if your on the school board sad. Now your daughter can stay at McDowell and u can hand pick the coach. Bottom line is this is classic board member over jealous parent who is in it for his kids . Coaches all there teams plays his kids first. Then when he looses control once his kid is in high school he cries to the board snd raises a stink till coach is removed. Oops oh ya he's on the board. Lol he just has the coach removed himself.

No idea if it had anything to do with any school board member or not. This is a whole community that had had enough being embarrassed by a staff that had no business coaching AAAA basketball.
Best move the Mcdowell administration has made in a long time. Sweep the broom with all those little girl "coaches".

Tatonka – welcome back… I thought we got rid of you and the non sense you bring to the table… first off let’s get one thing straight.. sight is used when you are talking about vision – site is used when talking about the web…“piss ant”… had to use because that is as stupid as the rest of your posts…..I my friend am not on the school board… another wrong fact of yours…

I have a better Idea Tatonka why don’t you tell us who should be hired as the head coach since you have all the answers and who should make the team and “start”. Or did you try that and get fired for it….

As I have said before there should not be one parent out they that isn’t looking out for their kids best interest. Maybe you don’t have kids so you just don’t understand the concept… interesting you mention next that a board member cried to the board and raised a stink till coach was removed – do you have facts that happened? When was the termination in comparison to the board meeting? Does the board do the actually hiring and firing of teachers and coaches or do they vote based on the recommendations of the AD or principals? So again please provide facts you cornucopia of useless BS…. LOL… HA..

Your nievness is comical if you actually think board members in millcreek have no influence on coaches getting fired. That's almost to stupid to even respond to. Get a clue.

Well if you're a terrible coach with a terrible staff as was the case with McDowell I hope the board stepped in. Enough was enough with those little girls playing coach. It's a aaaa school get someone in there that actually knows how to coach.
