This is not a bad thing, but once again it points out a double standard. The only time you see boys singled out is to put them through some kind of sensitivity class or to diminish them in some way. If you had a day encouraging even more boys to go into math and science, since overall this would be a good thing and not just for girls, there would be a huge outcry. No matter the minority, there are loads of examples of programs and benefits going only to selected groups, when males are forgotten unless singled out in some negative way.

Absolutely spot on. I kind of chuckle and shake my head everytime I read stuff like this. Out one side of the nations mouth you have treat everybody the same.....then people are applauded for organizing something like this.

When I was at Allegheny I was pretty much told not to show up to talk to the State Farm Representative when they were on campus to do interviews because they were only looking at minorities.

I have since decided that at some point I will try to fund a scholarship at Allegheny for white, males whose parents earn less than 50k per year and are first generation college students. However, I doubt my liberal and open minded alma mater would agree to such terms.

Anyhow, good for these girls. Science and Engineering backgrounds immediately put you in the area where you alone start out making more than the average household in this country.
