Let's be honest Shyquawn Pullium did not have the grades to get into PSU. How did this happen....... Prep passed him through so he could play sports. If Shyquawn Pullium truly made the grades he should have had a scholarship to PSU, but PREP used him and now his future success is limited.... Shame on you PREP for using this young man.... The Black community should take notice. Sure Graham Parsons paid his tuition..... He may as well have been a slave to the whities for four years.

You're saying, I think, that he DIDN"T do something at Prep that he would have done at a different school. That's not something you could know even if you were Pulliam.

Among other things you don't know are the admissions criteria for PSU and, what should have been obvious, that every student turned down by PSU has a high school diploma. You were expecting an academic ride for him?

What I am saying is Pulliam did not make the grades to graduate from PREP. If he was a "C"/2.0 student he would have a sports scholarship. Prep let him graduate without making the grade. PSU did not give him an academic ride, which was the "right thing to do". PREP gave a failing student a diploma so that he could play football.... He was used like a animal with no regard for his future.

PREP FAILED Pulliam..... Pulliam only did what was expected of him.

He is not the first one to be used in this way. In the past there have been some that prep kicked out after football season was over so they didn't receive a diploma but were led along just to complete the football season. Of course this happens at other schools too.

Did this kid get "used" by Prep for their own athletic purposes ? One could look at it that way. How about another viewpoint. What about questioning the parents ( if there are any ) or the guardians of the young man and their responsibilities in raising him with higher academic expectations ?
Prep obviously offered this kid a chance to attend their school as well as a spot on their football team. Is there no accountability on other adults besides the school to decide if the kid is actually able to cut it academically at Prep in the first place ? I have known many kids and families who knew beforehand that Prep would be too challenging for their sons and therefore did not send them there for that very reason.
Would sending him to Vincent, East, or Central have been better ? Would he have been exposed to the same discipline at these schools and would his grades have been higher under a less strenuous curriculum ? Is a B at East viewed better than a C grade at Prep ? A school like Penn State knows the difference, they've recruited in Erie many time before.
One could make the case that an average athletic talent would not have been able to play at Prep given the same academic circumstances. Probably true. Given the alternatives however it is my belief that Pullium wanted to go to Prep and felt that they gave him the best chance at a college scholarship, a scholarship at a very well recognized institution. He most likely would not have had that chance playing for one of the city public high schools. Now it is up to him to strengthen himself academically at another school this year if he wants to prove himself worthy of playing at the next level.
While Prep deserves some scrutiny here it ultimately comes down to the responsibility of the young man and his family to place him in the right positions. When you rely solely on others to set your course in life you will all but assure yourself of disappointment.

So a high school kid has no responsibility for his own grades? That's a surprise to all of us who ever went to school. Stories about high school athletes who don't meet NCAA scholarship standards are very common. The big schools who want such kids to play a sport will direct them to a year of additional preparatory education before giving them a scholarship. Pitt has done this, such as with LeSean McCoy.

Happens all the time...there are hundreds if not thousands of super bowl rings in pawn shops. The end of the road of un-educated athletes.

Maybe PSU has a 'Cathedral Prep Rule' allowing those recruits a year off Main Campus to do their sexual assaults and cop their pleas before they're distracted by football or books?

Yeah, it's preps fault he failed to educate himself. It's their job, right?

Wrong. We have this thing called personal accountability in this world, and I squarely blame Shyquawn himself for his not getting a free-ride scholarship.

Clearly he wasn't a scholar. Big suprise there. Stop blaming others for your own failures.

It is very possible that Shyquawn may have had good grades but failed the college tests. This is not uncommon. There are many high grade students that have trouble with testing. Maybe this school, he will be attending, will help him focus and show his true potential. If he fails then it will be totally on him and not the school.

Why is this all Prep's fault!? Typical Black person, wants all the fame and glory and money that he thinks is owed him.....but he doesn't want to work for it. Hey Homes! If you wanna get into PSU you have to have stellar grades. I realize you probably want things handed to you, but no one cares. Time to move on. I'm sure you will have a wonderful career living off the rest of us!
