Nick Scott's shameless self promotion

Remember when Nick Scott decided to pay Clara Ward's property taxes so she could keep her house? Of course, Nick couldn't just do it quietly. Oh no. Instead, he had all three TV stations and the Erie newspaper cover his "generosity" to Ward.

And it still goes on.....

In the October issue of Erie magazine (the manufacturers and business mag), Scott actually had the gall to take an an ADVERTISEMENT to pat himself on the back for his generosity to Clara Ward!

And this is from a guy who is notoriously cheap and not very "giving" to his own employees.

What a self-serving crum.

Couldn't he have just donated the money to Ward privately? Why did Nick Scott need to turn this into a media event? If he wants to be a "nice guy," wouldn't it make more sense if he was nice to his own employees?

And before anyone asks, yes it was Nick Scott's ad.

Scott Enterprises took out the ad.

And before anyone notices...Dennis D is an idiot. Everyone knows that businesses can buy "blocks" of advertisement that the magazine puts in as space allows. The design the ad...content and size. If Dennis D wasn't on such a witch hunt, he would have also noticed the ad for tourism that highlighted the convention center. In the fine print you'll notice the ad sponsered by Scott Enterprises among others. That "evil" man that Dennis is crying about paid for an ad that promotes his competition but more importantly...Erie. Yep Dennis that sure does look self-serving...NOT.

And FYI...it was the TV show that approached Mr. Scott about donating SOME money towards the taxes. He said he would take care of it. He didn't want the "show" but had to take it because of the contract that Clara signed saying that cameras were allowed to capture everything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same nick scott that didn't want to pay prevailing wages for the construction of the bayfront hotel that was originally proposed for one of his properties?

Could it be the difference is that he was using "business ethics" there? Is there a difference between business ethics, public (especially political)ethics and private ethics?
For the record I like to hear about when people are charitable. It reminds me to be. The more reminders, the more I am.(PS don't look now but the Salvation Army's bell ringers will be coming soon ;)

OH NO!!! Scott refused to pay extortion wages to the union c.e.o.s?? Good for him.
It seems to work well for him. He's built dozens of structures and put millions of dollars into our economy in just construction wages and materials. Employs hundreds of people and pays more in taxes in 1 minute than you do in a year.
You're a real piece of...something.

Give me a break! This is the same man that when his "enterprise" was approached for a SMALL donation to a local non-profit organization he turned them down. You should have seen the paperwork that they had to fill out. It was all about how would his donation be acknowledged. How much advertising would he get out of it. A smart business man that owes that many restaurants should have been able to figure out that if he gave something as simple as a $25 gift card that HE would make out. You can't go to any of his businesses and not spend less than $50. So don't try to convince me that he is not all about promoting himself.

Very familiar with this argument. All the while wall street is raping us the capitilist cry is "don't kill the goose that lays the golden egg".
If it fits, that's a good ideal. The problem is they use that excuse to take you down to $7 an hour; or $6 and hour. Given the chance I'm sure many would take you down to $2 and hour if they could whether their company was in peril or not.
Bad ethics is the complaint many have against business.(Business slogan: let the sucker beware.)

With health care reform potential entrepreneurs will be free to ditch those jobs and try to make it in their own company. The overtime is unlimited.

why do any of you egg sucking losers even care ? you all support the supreme egg sucking weasel in the white house and yet you comment on a local guy who threw a few bucks to a dead beat to get some good press and a dose of guilt free. Eriesponsible . Eriefutibly petty.

Well, the ones for Nick Scott, must be on his payroll. Maybe the monkees from the accounting dept (drunks and illiterates). When a donation is asked for by a company, organization, person, whatever...there is soooo much whining and crying about the money. Do we have enough to cover it? We have to wait for a check run to make sure all is okay. Then of course, lets make sure we put the name and the company out there. Must read it everywhere...a little tiny speck about them and it must be clipped and enshrined. Work for them, cheap!

Go forth and show us how it SHOULD be done. How many people do you employ? How much do you pay them?

Make the donation yourself. I don't work for him, but I do enjoy an occasional get away at the Courtyard. Love to swim in the pool while the snow flies outside and Damon's ribs taste best poolside.
Of course you loser libs will never experience it since you don't have two nickles to rub together.

It's spelled "nickels", citigirl. Even when you change your name, you can't help but throw in some of your patented childish name calling. You are a sad and pathetic person. If you weren't so mean-spirited, I'd feel sorry for you.

1. Only a pathetic loser like you points out meaningless spelling mistakes.
2. I'm not citi :)!
3. You are obsessed with her.
4. This thread is a bitter attack against a SUCCESSFUL man by lib losers like you, because he IS successful.
5. Only lib losers like you employ viscous name calling(read your own post).
6. One night with me at the Courtyard, Jessica, would make your knees weak and release all that pent up frustration.
7. Too bad for you it will never happen.

Simple: honestly with a sincere approach to having a meeting of minds with your customer. Unfortunately a lot of business has come down to razzle dazzle to be purposely deceptive.

Me and my friends will often drive by Nick's Shorehaven flat, get high and fondle the marble breasts of his many statues.

Not before taking turns putting it to his trophy wife while we babysit the neighbor kid in the big brown house next to his.

Oy Vey!!!

I'm not sure about your situation but I have asked for donations from Scott Enterprises before. I never have had the problem you are talking about. There was a form to fill out...basically telling what kind of organization the donation is for and how it will be used. They wanted a contact name and number. No big deal. Maybe it was the way you asked or came across to them. Ours is a small group of 30-50 preteen kids. They gave us 4 gift cards to hold a drawing for and then certificates for each child. There was/is no advertising at our events so he received no media attention at all. He settled for a "thank you" and a hand shake. Want a hard time getting a donation go to Erie Insurance.
