It is not the breed, it is the owners. Although I am in total fear of these animals. I know that it is not the dogs fault. When you have ignorant dog owners who teach the dog to be aggresive or to own as a status symbol then it is really the person fault. Go around town and see for yourself, lower eastside, lower west side you will see young men and women with these dogs. These people can barley take care of themselves let alone a dog. It does not matter the breed of dog, if Labs were the "in" thing in inncer city life then your poll would have been about labs not pit bulls. I wish we could ban ignorance.

My brother in law has a pit with a 5 year daughter and a 3 year old son. No issues. My neighbor has a pit in Lawerence Park that I see him walk on a daily basis, very social and friendly dog. However I would not have him come to my housewith his dog amd play with MY kids nor would I go to his house and have my kids play with his dog. This goes for any kind of dog. It is simply common sense.

I big dog can dominate personalities, and “good” owners can loose control. I think that is what makes pits bulls so dangerous. As they are not like a Chihuahua where the size is not intimidating, on the other hand, pit bulls are big muscular dogs, and they seriously injure people. If people claim to be good citizens or owners then they should do what is best for people and not be ignorant about this problem. I think there other factors such as dog fighting and drug dealer dogs are all being reported as problems. It also hits locally with a young girl being bit in the face that will be physically disfigured in addition to the emotional scaring. If rules are in place, these problems do not exist. It is a shame that people in dogs have to live in neglectful position, and it is unfortunate that the supporters are not pro-human.

I don't think it was nice of you to get this picture of TWiT. Anybody can see you photo-shopped a dog's head on her body. Not Nice!

In Pa., you cannot pick a certain breed of dog and ban them. Pa. is considered an agricultural state.

Hi Penny. Could you explain why being an agricultural state has something to do with that? I'm missing something :)

Paul, I understand and respect your opinion. I just feel it would be hard to enforce a ban on Pit Bulls. If you recall a year or so ago, a family (sheepdog) mauled a young Millcreek girl. You just never know with animals. My children are 5 and 3, we do not have a dog. I would not get one until they were older and could be responsible enough to be around one. One breed I can tell you I would not get as a family pet is a pit bull. To me, they are not really a family pet, more of a gaurd dog. That is just my opinion, but I nor my elected officials should tell anyone what they can or can not own. I think stiff penalties should be enacted for dog owners whose pets attack and maul people, then maybe that way people would be a bit more responsible when choosing a breed of dog.

Much easier....ban the monkeys that think pit bulls are a status symbol. This will also put a big dent in the gun violance and excessive car radio volumn. Not to mention the end to underwear hanging out of pants worn around the knees. Take this action and THEN Erie will be on the road to real recovery...ignore it and remain the welfare capital of PA.

Better yet let's put a ban on stupid people and the future breeding of. Wipe out the dumbasses and there will be no need to ban anything ever again.

Mrs D I'm not being a smartass but I'd be curious what you think of this. Is maybe the division not between rich and poor as much as smart and not smart?(seriously)
When people tell others to get a job or start a business, I think what they're really saying is "I'm smarter than you are". Not everyone is college material but at least people could get grunt work in shops. That's gone...at least at livable wages and the service sector pays less.
If you tend to agree with this, what do you honestly suggest the fate of the not so lucky be?

I think now would be a good time for Republicans to bring back the war on Rap music. Before it seemed to simply be code for picking on the blacks but now I think it might sell as glamorizing the poor.
Some rappers present like makin' Benjamins in the hood is the place to be. Meanwhile drug dealers in the hood are more likely to be a drug mule or low level (poor) dealer/addict.
While Snoop Dogg may have a rep of bein' a chillin' dude from the hood, underneath it all, that dude is a very ambitious free market man.(He also hosts "Girls Gone Wild" videos and he's not there to see what he can do for the girls, I'm sure.)

Hi Penny. Could you explain why being an agricultural state has something to do with that? I'm missing something I'm not sure the reasoning behind the law. I heard that it has to do with Pa being a farming state and that animals are protected under that reason. I know that you cannot ban a dog because of its breed. Jim Thompson was discussing the agri-state issue on banning certain breeds of dogs. Don't know for a fact that is true, but I have heard him state that on many occasions.

Good point, I agree with you, but with the current adminstration trends, I am starting to believe that people rather have the government make choices for them. If they do put legislation in place it will be a waste of time and money, because its just a matter of responbility.
