The problem with Joey Stevens isn't that he's overpaid. Who can blame him for taking whatever he can get? No, Joey's problem is that same that it has always been: he's a phony whose private persona does not match his public performance.

While on-air, Joey appears to the public as this funny, happy, friendly weatherman. The reality couldn't be further from the truth. Joey's temper problems have been witnessed by many people over the years. Just ask around about that. A nice guy? Sure, maybe when the camera is running, but it's a false picture. Joey is also arrogant and petty. Joey Stevens's media persona is not an accurate picture of him.

His flower is probably more genuine than he is.

There are numerous television personalities in Erie who are the same off-air as they appear on the screen. Joey, sadly, is not one of them.

He's a petty, pampered, prima donna is is as phony as a three dollar bill

About 2 years ago my Daughter and I were out to Dinner at a Upper Peach Street Restaurant. My Daughter noticed Joey Stevens standing in line with his wife waiting for a table. Not knowing any better she went over and said (very politely) "Mr. Stevens, I really enjoy your weather forecasts."

Joey's response to my Daughter? In a very snippy voice, "I'm trying to have a quiet night out with my wife!" and turned away from her. Needless to say my Daughter was crushed and I lost whatever respect I had for Joey "Mr Ego" Stevens.

I realize public people need to have a private life but to snap at a 10 year old? He was standing in line! He wasn't at his table eating his dinner.

The stories about Joey, his ego, his bad attitude and his numerous temper tantrums are all true. It is a shame that a 10 year old would be more mannered and well-behaved than a "supposed" broadcast "professional!"

Joey deserves whatever uncomfort he is experiencing these days at 3514...deserves it in spades my friends!

I'll use a couple examples from those last three who commented before me. First involves difference of opinion. The person who said he or she thought Lisa Weismann had no personality and did a horrible job anchoring on WSEE Thursday night. I just happened to stumble on the station because she usually is on 12 and even anchored one weekend. Contrary to HOLY COW I think Lisa is a refreshing person on the local front. I think she is quite talented. Her delivery is different and I think the comment that she doesn't have a personality comes from the fact she doesn't fall into the rookie trap of feeling she is like a smiling robot. I feel like she is just trying to tell the story and if you notice without the phoney smiles she seems to emphasize the words differently. I believe I read that she graduated from Penn State and is only 23. I think she has the ability and time to be in a big market in a few years. Sometimes in broadcasting it takes time to smooth out the edges. Regarding Joey Stephens I going to have to say I cannot join the bandwagon to jump on him because of how he supposedly acts off air. I was a broadcaster for years. First I have to say broadcasters get paid to broadcast and although it might be nice for viewers to see their heros with constant smiles on their face or at least an acceptable response, those broadcasters are human beings. They have "bad" days or "bad" moments like we all do. It may have seemed inhuman to react not nicely to a ten year old daughter but who knows maybe what happened just before that. Unfortunately, like in a poll here a handful of sightings create an ogre image of Stephens. I'm sure others think well of him. But SO WHAT if they don't. To always seem to have to be on guard as to how you react can sometimes be very stressful. I remember the ol' days when I felt like I couldn't run to the stores without shaving because I was afraid someone would see me. Being married to a "tv personality" can be difficult. For ten years I think it was tough for my ex-wife because as a nurse she even was known less then having her own identity but more as being "the wife of the tv personality." I don't know Joey Stephens but do enjoy him on the air. I respect all of your comments and know any broadcaster who reads this can relate to it. Let's keep watching and communicating.

Does anyone know why the local TV station that had Phil Fatica got rid of him? He's now on the Millcreek Government Channel (MGC) every day and, granted, he is a little too much at times with his interviews but he looked like he was a stable anchor.

Phil Fatica started at WICU in the early 1980s. Phil was hired to do sports to replace Bill Knupp, who became news Anchor after the legendary Ned McGrath lost his battle with Cancer. Phil did a good job as sports anchor - but got bored.

Phil was hired by WSEE in the spring of 1986. Phil wasn't treated properly by WSEE. The ratings never improved and then Phil was moved to mornings where - along with a pay cut - he wasn't happy and then quit. All after only a couple years.

Hope that answer helped?

Speaking of Lisa Weismann, she looks great in a bikini. Chick has a pair of world class bazookas. She would do great as a stripper!

And she makes noises like a chipmunk when she gets excited!

I think that Joey is a nice guy. Talked to him on several occations and never had a bad word about anyone. He's just as humored off camera as on. I'm a weather watcher for WSEE and talk to him at his work and talked to him when he's not at work. Think he's a good guy. This other stuff I have heard in other posts really suprises my wife and I.

Joey is cocky, but so are many other on air types with WSEE. The egos are out of control. They got rid of the biggest ego, Raychael. But they cut the head off the monster and Jacquelene's head grew in it's place.
You probably are not aware of who she is because no one watches their newscasts.
She is the anchor with the deer in the headlights look who took a couple political science classes in college and claims to be an expert. Insiders say her ego is bigger than Katie Couric's.
Have to say I really like the new girl on in the morning. Cute and not full of herself like that last one. Still doesn't have that "it" factor like Scott Bremner.

Rumor has it that Brian Lilly is grooming Jacqueline "Deer-in-the-headlights " Policastro to be General Manager in another couple years. Je*us! That would be a terrible mistake.

What is with all the Raychael bashing? This isn't the first time the comments about Raychael have been posted. Got any "confirmed" examples of her ego? Just because someone is confident in their abilities doesn't mean they are egotistical.

On topic, please?

What's with all of the cuties being from Penn St? Lisa Weismann, Stephanie Schelkun, and Amelia Segal all graduated there in early 2008 and then were hired by WICU, WSEE, an WJET respectively.

I appreciate them going for new, young, pretty blood but all 3 will be gone within two years. Just like Kiran Chetry, Rachel Frank, Kelly Curran, and Dylan Dreyer. All of the hot ones are too good for Erie. That's why Julie Coates has been around forever. Too average looking.

I think they should hire locals anyway. They know the city and they won't crucify the day to day names that have established this city. Give them a modest, but deserving wage, as Erie is that type of city. The only thing I hear from the out-of-towners is how much snow we get and how cold it is. If you don't like it, don't live here. We all deal with it because we like the diversity of seasons. They all have their beauty. Walking ON the bay when it's frozen over on a sunny day is exhilerating. Riding a bike through the leaves during the fall at the peninsula rejuvenates your joints and muscles. Kyaking or walking on the peninsula in the summer is fabulous and last but not least is the breath of fresh air when the leaves start blooming along with the flowers while the snow is melting away...out of town newscasters, go back to where you came from and give me a Raychelle Vendetti, Tom Divecchio, Jay Puskar anyday compared to the other prima-donnas - especially douchbag Rapolo and kiss-ass Shelkin and PoliCASTRO!!

I'd like someone who knows to cover the smell of leaves burning or a kid's collection of polished horse chestnuts.

I thought I couldn't be shocked enough this past week when I saw three wicu reporters do pieces for wsee. Then a wicu reporter anchored for 35. Tonight (Sun) the ultimate. I punched up channel 12 on my remote at 11 pm expecting Lisa Adams to anchor about Father's Day. Guess what was there? Scott Bremner from wsee with a taped show called "insider" a half hour show about saving the Shriner Hospital. Meanwhile on 35 was there typical no news but taped sports half hour show leaving the news only on WJET-TV. And does anyone really wonder why we aren't being considered an 'All American City?" Everyone is so carried away about government travel expenses. Looked like quite a delegation promoting our booming city in Tampa against Kissimmee and Disney, etc. Hate to sound sarcastic but really.

Effectively immediately the weekend news on WICU has been cancelled "until further notice."

I thought the reason there was no weekend news is so the engineers can install the new million-dollar control room?

Again, I repeat:

I find it interesting that folks at WICU have been bashed on this thread and it's ok but once Raychel became the focus of conversation it's suddenly "off the topic" and "rude". If you don't want trash talk on here about people then make it for everyone, not just a select few.
