Why would anyone listen to a Catholic priest, a Protestant mega-church pastor,a televangelist, or a Hitler Youth Pope? If you ever read the apostolic letter "Mulieris Dignitatem", On the Dignity and Vocation of Women written by the late Pope John Paul II, you would have a different opinion. It speaks of women better than anything I have ever read.

The theology of the Catholic Church says that the woman God created has insufficient endowment to serve as a priest or to make her own reproductive decisions.

I'm not catholic and don't care what he has to say. He is just another man in my opinion.

The blame for their behavior... rests squarely on their shoulders. WE can teach, we can preach, we can lead by example, but once they hit a certain age parents have no say in these things. Birth control I swear.... I would be preaching about it by age 10 and showing the whole vivid HAVING A BABY video from Time Life or whomever makes it. Yes, birth control is a component.(Getting people to use it , and use it CORRECTLY....) But what's more important IMO is working on societal issues that are causing the pregnancies -- both aborted and not -- in the first place. Our society tells people they do not have to show any restraint. "Just do it" and don't think about the consequences.

I have also been in the hospital and seen how they are treated differently than I was as a married mother. I worked in health care for 12 years and heard the comments of my co-workers when we had a young pregnant patient. When abortions become federally funded and available everywhere the poor women who want to keep their babies will be pressured into having abortions. Planned parenthood is thriving on college campuses offering abortions to young women who have the means. It is all of these babies that we fail to see in the vital statitics. I know some of these women, and they chose abortion because of shame. They chose abortion because they had no support. They chose abortion because society told them it was the easy way out. They chose abortion because the man left. We need to start treating pregnancy like the gift it is and not a disease to be cured. I believe that the downfall of society goes right back to the legalization of abortion. If sex is no longer meant for procreation and as a symbol of married love, if it is mearly for personal gratification and there are never any consequences because you can just have an abortion, then why wouldn't people brag about it. We have a culture based on sex, but we don't want to hear any thing about it if a baby is created. You and I are so close in agreement, yet so far. I think legalized abortion was a RESULT of the loosening of morals, not the cause. As far as teenage pregnancies, lack of family support and self esteem lead the girls to seek love/attention where they can get it. Many end up pregnant. A lot of those who are keeping their kids want someone/something to love them unconditionally; others are brought up with teen mothers, and continue the pattern. The men/boys are not expected to be held responsible, and a lot of them pay off the "mothers" to not name them on the birth certificate. But I digress.... As long as there are unwanted pregnancies, there will be some women who choose abortions.(Not as the "easy way out." There IS no easy way out. All choices have consequences attached.) We as a society need to look at preventing the unwanted pregnancies, not force women to gestate.
