How does roar on the shore bring money to the city?

I am sick of the platitudes that roar on the shore brings millions of dollars to the city of Erie. Besides lining the pockets of several bars, the McCormick's at Erie beer, Nick Scott (whose businesses are out in the county) and lots of out of city/state vendors; what brings in the millions of dollars of revenue to the city?

How dumb are you. Tens of thousands of people spending money on lodging, food, shopping, etc. obviously you have never been exposed to economics 101.

I have thank you. You have still not made a point to how the CITY directly makes money from this nusance? In fact, I would argue that it looses money by local people avoiding the area, and the overtime we have to pay the municipal authorities. Where are these people shopping? Unless you count the run on the stores for extra large tube tops. Not many local retailers left in the city limits. Yes they are buying food, but not prodimantly at sitdown dinning restaurants. Manny of the vendors that applied for permits at the event are from out of town/ the state. There are very few locally owned gas stations so take that out of the equation. How many hotels are left in the city (not the county)? Very few is the answer. You are just regurgitating the dimwited justification this post was about. If you're going to argue Mr. Economics, site tangible sources.

Blocked of? And she is illiterate? 7.5 miles down the center of town, cutting off major hospitals, is not easily navigated around. Apparently you are not in the affected areas.

The city gives a pass to the drinking and driving at roar , it's sat because if this was a charity event it might mean something, but it's not, it's a drunk fest run by mayor sinnot

You meant during the parade? I see. I thought you meant just the downtown party scene that was blocked off. While Peach and French were open. My apologies. Hope your mum is okay.

The mayor lives for this event. It is the best thing of his whole time in office. I do not know if it brings a lot of money. But it has to bring some. Most hotels are in Summit so I would expect they get more then the city. It is not a event personally that I would attend and I think a lot of Erie people and surrounding area feel the same. The bikers like it and is great for them as a lot of there nonsense is tolerated by the police, like public drunkeness , fight etc. Because the mayor wants more and more people to attend. I will say this town is drinking everything. Every event is about drinking. But not just that it is binge drinking by young and older young people who should be raising their children. It is ok and to have kids and go out and have fun, that is your right. But Roar on the shore is not a kid friendly event or atmosphere. So just my opinion as always, enjoy your weekend however it may be spent.

Not my cup of tea, but I won't begrudge a seemingly harmless event if it brings revenue into this tired old city. The type of people who ride motorcycles run the gamut from wanna be bikers who wear suits and ties during the day to the scumbags who live up to the negative stereotypes. I went down out of curiosity tonight (should have went during the day), yikes! It was absolutely packed. If a mob-like brawl started, I don't think the police would have been able to handle the situation. It was the biggest crowd I've ever seen down there for an outside event like that. I think the problems start when the sun goes down and the consumption of alcohol starts to catch up with people. I did get an eyeful and unfortunately some things I had seen can not be unseen. I am talking about the usual downtown crowd who were out "representing" our fine city. don't know what to make of the ROTS event. I would like to see an actual P&L statement for this event as well as looking at the overall impact of hosting such an event.

Just a couple of questions and observations:
1. Why isn't the mayor's ride at a location where he is actually the mayor? The ride starts at the Harley shop in Millcreek Township, travels around Presque Isle State park and ends in Millcreek Township.
2. If the mayor is going to have his "ride" in Millcreek, he could at least have the decency to obey the local speed limit laws. I guess nobody told him the speed limit on Peninsula Drive has been reduced to 25mph from the Ridge Center to the park. The mayor and his band of merry bikers were flying down that hill last night.
3. I was driving up Peninsula Drive while the bikers were heading down the hill and noticed that some of the bikers were taking both hands off the handlebars and giving the "devil horns" signs to the spectators lining the roadway. Isn't that a vehicle code violation? Don't you have to have at least one hand on the handlebars at all times?
4. I wish PennDot would have installed the raised crosswalks in front of Sara's before the Mayor's ride; it would have been nice to see a few Evil Knievel style jumps in addition to everything else that was going on.
5. I suggest we rename the Roar on the Shore to "Halloween in July". After all, everyone is in "costume". Everyone is wearing black and some are wearing the optional do-rag. Additionally, most of the women look like five miles of bad road most of the men are displaying a "bad ass" facial expression, which is usually heightened by a day or two growth of facial hair. I guess the facial hair only has to be a day or two in growth to enable the banker and dentists to participate in the Halloween festivities.. From what I can tell, clothing other than the color black is permitted, but only if it is decorated with the words "Harley Davidson".
6. Last but not least..........quote in today's paper from a Wattsburg native who has participated in all eight mayor's rides.
".......a lot more people are getting introduced to the motorcycle world who never seen it before, and I think that's a good thing,''
They've never SEEN it before? I wonder how many of these bikers have ever SEEN the inside of an English text book. That quote along with the photo of the large breasted 25 year old pig tailed girl pouring Jagermeister down some middle aged guys throat on Peach street says it all. I bet her father.......and his daughter are real proud today.
Here's a thought, why don't we just turn the whole city of Erie into a trailer park? That way we could enjoy these festivities year round.

Pigs ride hogs has many meanings at the Roar. So far it's 1 dead 2 injured and arrest reports are private. How much did they pay that "woman" to ride with the mayor, I know he is to embarrassed to get his own woman.

Why does mayor Sinnott insist that the EPD motorcycle patrol "volunteer" to work during Roar on the shore?
I was in the parade on Thursday night and Millcreek PD handled the event properly, officers and cars at every major intersection but when we got to Erie it was a complete mess, especially at Glenwood and State Street, only one or two officers working.
You would think that if Sinnott was involved with the event first hand he would show some class and have all bases covered, if for nothing else safety concerns.
When we asked later at the park why there was not much police presence a guy said that the Erie mayor does things on the cheap, and he didn't want to pay for overtime and expected the motorcycle police to volunteer their time for the event.
Sinnott just received a hefty salary increase, he should be willing to spread some of that wealth around, especially for an event that he is in charge of.

Except these people were not at the ROTS.

And the car drivers were at fault (gee, if they can't see that motorcycle then they will probably never see your child crossing the road before they run them over, will they?)

But hey, let's not let these little facts ruin your parade.

As for the rest of you whiners, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. If you don't like it then stay the fck away. No one is bending your arms to go anywhere near these festivities.
