People r hung up on the temp status because other plans have been made. Yes we want our jobs back but don't want to put everything on hold for a 3 month job! Remember, not everyone sit at home on the couch waiting for GE to call. Some enrolled in school, other obtained other employment. If I got a job making ok money I would be concerned about accepting a temp job. Why would anyone leave a decent job for a 3 month good job?

I have heard this is normal protocol for call backs. If you read previous posts I believe someone mentioned that after being temporary for 6 months you will get permanent status. I don't know why everyone is so hung up on this temporary status. Isn't a job a job? Thank your lucky stars to be called back to a job at all! Also- the sooner you start working and paying back into unemployment you would have the opportunity to collect down the road (God forbid) you get laid off again.

I understand. I guess I'm just under the impression from reading posts and listening to others that temp status is just a term. By that I mean I heard those people will be made permanent. I also hear the numbers of orders and I don't think GE would waste their time to hire hundreds back just to lay them off again in 3 months. I assume if orders stay on the books and continue to be added to the books GE will keep everyone on board. No one knows what the future will bring. I guess you have to have faith that GE has one main goal and that is to get orders. Orders = Need for Employees

Just some food for thought. As of nov 25 anyone not back at ge will begin to lose service. Your service date will begin to move! Your co-worker who has less service may pass you by. Also your ge insurance will exspire. It's a tough spot if you have a decent job or are in school. If these temp positions become perm. Then you will have to return or lose your recall. It's a gamble. Anyway you look at it. If your new job pays you health care and a decent wage. Then I guess your set. But not likely. You may just have to play the ge gambit

Ya know... this whole process has been a gamble. To continue with unemployment or get a job that pays less? To take TAA and go to school or get a job? To go back to GE or stay at your new job? Don't foget who is really making the decisions. For those of you who believe in God- put it in HIS hands!

I just spoke with the union hall and they told me that after this round of recalls (182ppl). There will still be 335 total left to be recalled.

my BL in bldg 5 told me that all displaced 22 code welders and assemblers should be offerred there perm jobs back by years end thus opening up the trickle down effect for temps to perm positions with a few 50 or so temp positions going into next year that there gooing to be enough work for everyone with a combination of foriegn kits, upgrade kits, booming oil and gas,as well as a booming OHV division, and a few domestic orders.so things should start to get to normal with alot of shifting around and more recalls.

Why shouldn't we vote Republican. Who else will ensure that Amtrak is unfunded and High Speed Rail never sees a dime. Public transportation is socialist and should be dismantled so we can rely on more foreign oil. Look what has happened under our new representation, GE is seeing rehiring, and developing new technologies because of liberal spending. Even Erie Shipyard has seen the effects of this horrible Democratic leadership by actually hiring and building again. I am voting Republican in Erie because we need a Butler car dealer who will put the Erie rail industry first. It's time to get back to the good days when everything was perfect. Besides even if we lose our jobs Republicans will make sure there is plenty of Unemployment benefits waiting because they have always supported it in the past.

I heard the company is suppose to meet with the union to discuss making most or all of the people called back permanent. Is this true? Can anyone tell me if we are all going to get called back? I have a service date of August 25, 2008. I am a 16 code stock keeper. I am hearing people with less time then me got called back and I am very happy for everyone I just hope I get that call too. Is GE going to call everyone back or are they done recalling?
