The signature of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper is among those on a letter from faith-based leaders across the country who want President Obama to create a religious exemption from his planned executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against gays and lesbians in terms of hiring.

The letter was sent to the White House on Tuesday and made public Wednesday. Included among its 14 signatures is one from "Kathy Dahlkemper County Executive, Erie County Pa. Former Member of Congress."

Dahlkemper could not be reached for comment today.

The faith leaders who signed the letter include Michael Wear, faith director for Obama's 2012 presidential campaign.

The letter states that its writers "agree that banning discrimination is a good thing. We believe that all persons are created in the divine image of the creator, and are worthy of respect and love, without exception."

However, the letter goes on to state that "even so, it still may not be possible for all sides to reach a consensus on every issue. That is why we are asking that an extension of protection for one group not come at the expense of faith communities whose religious identity and beliefs motivate them to serve those in need."

An exemption would allow for "balancing the government's interest in protecting both LGBT Americans, as well as the religious organizations that seek to serve in accordance with their faith and values," the letter states.

since religion is the issue for banning gays why not ban Christian hating muslims too? I would.

they want us to be tolerant of them but they DO NOT TOLERATE US or the U.S.

Where are the Grossman Miss me yet bumper stickers being sold? The prison, or the 911 center? She has sold her soul, and is now reaping the rewards. Dumb masses either gay or straight will still vote for her, even if she voted them into slavery.

Kathy, don't take the federal dollars collected from all of us and demand the 'right' to discriminate against some of us. Go see other bigots for your contracts.

Kind of hypocritical.....considering her youngest son is openly gay.

i think what she signed the letter for was to keep the Government from infringing on private businesses religious freedoms.

would a muslim business hire a Christian that openly displayed their belief in Christ?

why would anyone think a religious family owned business like hobby lobby should have to supply the morning after pill which is actually an abortion pill.

if the two people having sex don't want children they should use protection, not murder a child.

this is the U.S.A. and WE DO HAVE A CONSTITUTION, that guarantees us certain rights, if some people of certain orientations don't like it...TO BAD.

they have rights and the rest of us also have rights. I have the right not to like their lifestyle, I can accept it, but I still don't have to like it.

and if I have my own business I have the right to hire who I want to, other wise the business could fail and that's not right.

would you hire a person with ear gauges, facial piercings, and tattoos all over their face to represent your family business if it wasn't a tattoo parlor?

Why would a Christian citizen remain in, let alone pay various taxes to, a country such as America which not only has legal abortion but other laws expecting Christians not to be exceptions to all laws and that don't favor them in all their contradictory made up "religious" beliefs?

Former Erieite, your points are idiotic. This has nothing to do with the hobby lobby ruling, it is to let companies with any sort of religious philosophy arbitrarily discriminate based on perceived sexual orientations/lifestyles they don't agree with. The idea is pure discrimination as nobodies personal life (gay or straight) should have any bearing on their work. I don't know what the constitutional point you were trying to make was, as it guarantees EQUAL protection, not protection for YOU and another protection for the "other." Have you ever actually read the US constitution and bill of rights; in depth and not a quick Wikipedia overview? As far as your Muslim comment goes, their businesses don't seem to mind dealing with Christians. They do quite frequently, making them large profits. It's called big oil. Apropos to the above, considering Kathy Dahlkemper has an openly gay son, and former gay staff in her old DC office; it's a turncoat move. Shows she's just another grimy politician.

Hope all those gays who voted for her pay attention. She's a turncoat. What's worse, she's a fool who believes she is somehow smarter than everyone else. Anyone who falls for her horse***t has themselves to blame. One term is too long for this goof.

Perhaps as she is getting older she is embracing her faith more. Maybe in her mind she's trying to rectify a wrong--voting for Obamacare.

People go nuts when they're old, ugly and have a stain on their conscience. That might fit the bill.
