Pope Francis has made it known that he'd like Catholic Priests around the world to physically get out into the community and spread the Gospel. He's calling for "grassroots"-style ministry, which is the type of stuff the church was built on.

Why, then, is someone like Father Jerry Priscaro spending so much valuable time trying to divert tax dollars to rebuild the McBride Viaduct? I certainly can't imagine Pope Francis (or Jesus for that matter) caring about something like that or spending 1/100th of the time Father Priscaro has put into it.

Talk about Misplaced Priorities!!!!

Are you reading this Father Jerry? Then get your ass back to the three local Catholic churches you're supposed to be working at and actually do the work you should be doing!

I saw your little rant on TV at the Viaduct meeting. Believe me, the Catholic Church doesn't need any more priests making it look bad. Moreover, we finally seem to have a Pope who actually "gets it." Why don't you start getting it as well?

Father Jerry is an overweight slob that puts his own ego in front of his theological calling. He should rip off hat collar and go belly-bucking with Sinnot.

"Disscusted", which republican are you down in Harrisburg?
I think you are way off base on Fr. Priscaro, he is tending the flock and stepping up to the plate to advance the causes and concerns in his immediate community, if more people did that these days I don't think society would be such a mess.
Fr. jerry seems to have struck a nerve with you, is it something more than the McBride Viaduct? Did you do something in your personal life that you need to confess? Get back to what ever work you might do in Harrisburg and worry about thier prroblems, provide some solutions to the problems in Erie or stay in Harrisburg and run people down in that community.
Keep hammering away Fr. Priscaro, we need many more like you!

I am not Catholic...and will never be if father Piscaro is the example of a good Catholic. He may know the Bible. He may know the rules of the church. As an example, he is poor at best. You can start with just the way he looks. The Bible teaches you body is a temple. We all know the things that give you the risk of heart attack and stroke. If he follows the teachings of the Bible, why is he fat? Is that how he thinks a temple should be kept? I live in his "area" but have NEVER seen him on the streets. Why isn't he out ministering and reaching out to the troubled people instead of looking for the closest camera so he can talk about a bridge? It also cracks me up when the nuns "reclaim" a site. Where were they BEFORE someone got killed. NEVER saw them on the street until AFTER the fact. Maybe if they had done a little teaching on the street the shooting would have never happened. My guess is they were to busy with BINGO to be bothered with reaching out to people.

I hope you are judged as harshly , unfairly, and as ignorantly as you have judged Fr Piscaro. Come on, now. The bridge is question hasn't been something the community has needed for a long time now. 40 years ago, yes. 20 years ago maybe. But Erie (and that East side area in general) has changed considerably in recent years. Replacing or repairing that bridge doesn't make real sense anymore. Father Priscaro's advocacy for it reminds one of Cappabianca's efforts to restore Erie's "Little Italy" area on West 18th street--another example of denying current realities while trying to make an area what it no longer can logically be.

Priscaro's priorities are certainly wrong on this one. On that note I have to agree with the original thread starter.

We have no pope. "Pope" Francis is a bigger trainwreck than "Fr." Jerry; though of the latter, he's quite the leftist. He has a twitter feed and I saw him calling for gun control. Meanwhile Jesus said "if you don't have a sword get one"

Fr. Priscaro has an outstanding reputation wherever he has been. With 12,455 concerned citizens who signed his petition to Save the McBride Viaduct and with 4,562 vehicles a day using the bridge, it is admirable that he has garnered more support from the people than even the Mayor. He speaks very intelligently on the viaduct and has extensive knowledge about it. For four years now he has represented the people of Erie better than any elected official has. He cannot be bought or sold. He stands for the truth in all that he says and does. People admire a man like him who is always willing to fight for what is right on behalf of the people he serves and represents. You won't find a finer example of a true American, a true Citizen, and a brave man of God than Fr. Jerry Priscaro. His heart is always in the right place. His mind is always sharper than ever. He speaks eloquently on virtually any topic. He always is focused on what is in the best interest of the community and the people who live here. Keep up the good work Fr. Jerry! You've got 12,455 concerned citizens that are grateful for all you have done and continue to do on a social justice level.

Your statements make no sense at all. Must be Jane Earll or Janet Anderson making them. Then again maybe Mayor Sinnott. You say the pope wants priest's involved in the community. Well Fr. Priscaro is one of the most active priest's the Erie Community has ever known. He stands for social justice as much as he stands for the Catholic Christian faith. You represent 1 person. He represents 12,455 concerned citizen. Sounds like you're jealous. His priorities are in the right order. He pays taxes like everyone else including sales tax and gas tax etc. Pope Francis admires priests like Fr. Priscaro who get involved with their community even with civic issues. We need more priests like him. He's served the church and the community faithfully for two decades far surpassing anything you have done in your life. You've done nothing with your life. He's done a great deal with his.

What ?Some 4562 vehicles are using the McBride viaduct daily....really,it must be bicycles or tricycles, I wonder how many cars or trucks would use the bridge if it were actually open for traffic?
That 4562 vehicles per day fantasy figure computes to be 1,665,130 vehicles per year.....I suggest we build a TOLL bridge....we could pay off the city debt!
Sorry Sparky, but you a bit gullible....The viaduct is not necessary, people are getting to the East Avenue Amusement zone just fine without it since it was closed .
