Charges needed for shot in air to stop fight

Why are the Millcreek police not pursuing charges in the shooting and brawl that occurred at Oasis Pub on March 24 involving members of Erie motorcycle clubs?(Erie Times-News, April 16). Despite the fact that no parties were willing to press charges, a firearm was still discharged into the air, resulting in an immediate public hazard.

Failing to proceed with charges to ensure people are held responsible allows for this behavior to continue unabated, and puts club members on notice that their violent behavior will go unpunished.

With the increasing violence between motorcycle clubs culminating in recent fights and potential shooting deaths, should there not be more public outcry and police oversight regarding the violent outcomes of these highly public fights and clashes?

I call on Millcreek and Erie police to be more vigilant about these clubs' behavior, and hold them responsible for the violence that their members bring to local establishments and public venues.

If you really stood with the NRA, you'd realize that it is never acceptable to fire warning shots or fire into the air. Lest we recall the girl who died awhile back on New Years because of the same stupid behavior?

The guy isn't calling for gun control in his article. Stand Your Ground doesn't apply here. A warning shot is not lethal force. If the situation isn't dangerous enough to warrant shooting someone, then it isn't dangerous enough to warrant firing a gun into the air.

Millcreek police: No charges to be filed in fight, shooting involving motorcycle clubs
STAFF REPORT, Erie Times-News

No charges will be filed in a fight and shooting outside of a Millcreek Township tavern in late March, police said today.

No one involved in the incident wishes to pursue charges in the matter, Millcreek police Capt. Michael Tesore said.

Police had said that two people would likely face weapons charges from the incident, which happened outside a tavern in the 3100 block of West Lake Road on the early morning of March 24.

Police said the fight started when two members of a local motorcycle club and a larger group of people from another motorcycle club exchanged words inside the tavern. The group then stepped outside and the two members of the one club were beaten up by members of the other club, police said.

Someone else arrived on scene during the fight and fired a gunshot into the air to break up the fight, police said. No one was injured in the shooting.

The difference being these are organized gangs that are fighting, which should ramp up enforcement efforts as opposed to a few people fighting outside the Cell Block

What other fights are you talking about?
what is your definition of a gang? If these motorcycle clubs are organized gangs. then you need to include snowmobile clubs in the same crowd also the HOG group

You clearly dropped out of high school. The article clearly states that police HAD said they would LIKELY face weapons charges however NO ONE was charged.

sounds like Millcreek needs a new police captain.
someone clearly broke the law and placed untold number of people at risk of serious injury or even death....no charges.

wait til the 4th of july and others start shooting into the air, what will the cops do then wait til someone gets hurt when the bullets come back to earth before filing charges...

typical erie county BS. you can sue the police for not pressing charges in serious cases if someone gets hurt the next time around. cops can be sued, even the chief.

the DA should be asking what the hell is going on.

hope they have deep pockets. or maybe the shooter is related to a top official in millcreek....hmmm

Bikers rule the Erie area. We do what we want, when we want. You can't touch us. Fawk the police. They don't have the balls to charge us.

No. Post a source. You've done nothing but post allegations of sources but nothing credible to back them up. ETN had an article less than a week ago stating no charges will be filed.
