I have been told that 15th JDC Judge Durwood Conque will not be running for reelection. There are names being mentioned as possible candidates for this position. I have heard the names of Laurie Hulin, Stanton Hardee, III, Burton Guidry, Jonathan Perry, Ted Ayo and Gale Luquette, mentioned as possible candidates. The election will be held in October of 2014. Is anyone aware of other people interested in running for this Judgeship? Also, will Judge Ed Broussard have opposition? Word has it that a group of local attorneys are talking to a well respected and liked Vermilion Parish attorney about a possible opposition run.

I believe this thread has a lot of value. First I'd like to explain what's wrong with the way this will all go down. Typically, about half of us don't appear in the courtroom for anything civil or criminal. That half of the population is very ignorant about what happens in the courtroom. That half of the population is the reason you can't get a judge off the bench until he dies. You can't get a bad judge off the bench. Because half the population has no business before the court, so is unaware of some of the injustice that goes on in the courtroom. But once in a while the people get lucky and one dies in a car wreck like happened in Iberia Parish about 15 years ago.
A judge is elected for a 4 year term. But in reality, its a lifetime election, because the voters are lazy. Lazy meaning that when they scan the list of people running for judge, they just look for the incumbents name and vote that.
I think we should fill this thread with an opinion on all the people we believe should not be elected for judge. Myself, I belong to the ignorant element of voters. I have had no business in the courtroom in over 20 years. So I have no clue who the evil players are in the courtroom. But I would sure like to know who they are. I would also like to know about the bad reputation lawyers in this parish.

Well, I once heard there was a poll taken, and Lawyers were held one notch above used car salesmen on the trust scale. And I think Congressmen were one notch below used car salesmen.

Lol, eenie, meenie, minee, Moe!
I like Mr.Conque and wish he would stay till he goes to his next life, but I guess they all have to retire someday!
Their are a few that should never make Judge in my opinion...I've been in that court room many many times.... We need a judge that sends criminals away for a long time! Not put them on probation for a lifetime to give them the opportunity to do a horrible crime once again! We need a stern Judge, that don't put up with crap!
Many cannot handle the simple cases they have now, how would they be able to become judge?

I agree. Diane Meaux Broussard, Ed Broussard and Brady Broussard, Jr. can fill out their retirement papers as we speak. They will remain in office until they decide to retire.

lets break down the choices for judge.

Laurie - smart, good trial lawyer for DA but lacks court room experience. Too young.
Stanton - same as above. too young..not ready
Jonathan Perry - has half the court room experience of the other two above...he needs to decide if he wants to be senator, lawyer or judge. If he gets elected, he may decide to run for another office while a judge. He has a reputation of not staying in political office for his term.So why belief him now.
Gale Luquette - he is associated from Francis Plaisance which could hurt him
Burton Guidry - a joke. Not one to be trusted. Next week he may want to run for governor..he also changes his mind a lot. Oh yeah, he still lives in baton rouge.

What about Assistant District Attorney Ted Ayo? He has held this position for the past 18 years. Has much courtoom experence in criminal proceedings. He may deserve consideration if he decides to enter this race. Just saying. As far as Laurie Hulin, I think it is safe to say that she will pull in many female voters. After all, women make up 54% of the Vermilion Parish electorate. Gale Luquette is the only person in this race with Judicial experience. He has almost 10 years of experience as Child Support Commisioner. Burton Guidry served as Assistant Attorney General during Richard Ieyoub's tenure as Louisiana State Attorney General. Stan Hardee is just returning to Vermilion Parish so he will start this race with very little name recognition. Jonathan Perry is starting to remind me of the late Daniel Noel. Once elected to certain political position, he then sought another. Once successful at running for this new elected position, he would seek another. That is how he came upon being labelled a loser and could never again be elected to public office. Could not make up his mind. Senator Perry needs to tread cautiously. JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Few attorneys have any criminal courtroom experience. Because they all plea bargain. They wouldn't know how to fight a criminal case. I'd like to see the stats on plea bargaining. It has to be about 94 percent or better. The only criminal courtroom experience they have, is holding hands. You hire them, and for 7500.00 they will hold your hand while you throw yourself on the mercy of the court.

FYI. In yesterday's post, I failed to mention that Assistant District Attorneys Laurie Hulin and Stan Hardee, along with Ted Ayo do have courtroom prosecutorial experience in 15th Judicial Court criminal proceedings. Also, yesterday, while at the Lafayatte Parish Clerk's Office, two Vermilion Parish attorneys and a Vermilion Parish Abstractor mentioned the name of former Assistant District Attorney Bart Bellaire as a possible candidate for judge. I have always heard that the only political position that Bart was interested in running for was 15th Judicial District Attorney.

Went to court not long ago in Lafayette. The judge gave no probation, no pass Go, you Go straight to jail. Stern judge. I mean repeat offenders?? Should not be put on Probation! Period!
Once a Criminal, Always a Criminal!
I will not mention names but some just let things slide, we don't need that here in vermilion where the crime rate and Murders that have gone on. REPEAT OFFENDERS!!!, not to be put on Probation, need to be sentenced to Jail the 2nd offense, or first offense.

With criminals, part of the problem is the way the system is set up. All the retard judges and lawyers in every courthouse do it all wrong. The story always goes like this.
Little timmy is 17. He gets caught burglarizing a house. Gets arrested, bails out of jail. Goes to court, and pleads guilty. He gets a 3 year suspended sentence. Or he may get probation alone. Unless it is rape or murder, all the judges give probation or a suspended sentence for first offenders. Then the idiot Lawyers stand there and say "Your honor, little Timmy has never been arrested before. This is the first time he ever got in trouble. So we believe a suspended sentence is in order."
Just remember, all second and third offenders were all once a first offender who never got jail time. Instead, it should be mandatory that all first offenders get jail time. No exceptions. All of them. Even if its only 90 days, all go to jail on the first offense. Then you would see a big reduction in second offenders. But we have this dumb notion, that all first offenders deserve a break. They don't. First offenders need more jail time than second offenders. They need a good taste of jail on the first offense. Until this happens, nothing changes.
