Does anyone know about this law? I was completely unaware till I got slapped with a hefty fine. It's when you park with your passenger side next to the curb. Shouldn't there be signs for this?? People may say its in the drivers license manual so we should know about it.. CMON. People know not to park in a loading zone but there's still signs to alert you!! I know hundreds of Fairmont drivers are affected by this, the Municipal Clerk told me.

So let's all make our friends and loved ones aware of this completely ridiculous way Fairmont PD creates revenue for themselves.

SPREAD THE WORD! Save someone you know a $90+ ticket

It's actually when someone parallel parks against the flow of traffic in their particular lane on a two-way street. And I completely agree with your argument. That is absurd, I mean, what is the present danger if you so park like that? Nothing. Good post, friend.

How else is a loading zone, designated as a loading zone without signage?

How else do people know not to park left on the curb without signs? That's more of what I'm going for.

The problem with parking the wrong way is when you pull out you cross the on coming lane of traffic. Many serious accidents occur because of this.

So its the cops and cities fault you don't know basic rules of the road, I bet you have problems at a 4 way stop and the round abouts also. Stupidity is not a defense know the rules and admit you were wrong but my guess is you are part of the Me generation and just can't understand all this.

Lol do you always use Topix to vent anger and frustration. I feel sorry for you my friend, I hope you aren't always this bitter.
I totally understand the lack of awareness, especially for people who have barely ever had to parallel park in their lives.

My guess is that you're not very well thought of around the community and people you meet; or you must hate your job, any of those? I'm sure. Cheer up LOL

Wrong on all points Karen, the point I was trying to make was admit the guilt and move on its a lessoned learned but the original poster is acting like its everyone's fault but there's and gets on here to bash the police.

If a person isn't sure which side of the road they should drive on or park on, they don't have a grasp on basic rules of the road. It's frightening when you think about it.

I guess that it is those folks that the tag on electric hairdryers are meant for, telling you not to use the thing in the tub.

It's really sad that some of these people have parked that way for 20 years or more, and then get a ticket out of the blue. It's obviously not a consistent law. There's always a big mouth with no life who screws it up for everyone.

My friend is a Fairmont cop and he told me that the midnight shift thinks this is just hilarious and are making fun of the people who got tickets and how much it is costing them. WTF?

They hit our neighborhood on midnight shift and also gave tickets to people who parked in there grass. We do this for lack of parking. If I park the so called correct way that means my vehicle is heading down hill and then it won't start, because its one of those vehicles that when the gas goes to front of vehicle even for 15 minutes the stupid thing won't start. So in order to have a vehicle that will start I have to park heading up hill which makes me waiting for a ticket that I can't afford but have no choice. Been parking like that for 20 some years.

Just to shed a little light into this "Parking left on Curb" debate. The Fairmont City Cops were told by their Chief to enforce this law and write citations for those who parked illegally. This was all started by a member of the Fairmont City Council who threw a tantrum because she received a ticket for the very same thing years ago and is still bitter to this day. For the record, the Fairmont Police Officers do not want to write the tickets and are being made into bad guys for something they are being made to enforce. The people you need to direct your anger towards are the city council members. They meet once a month, so attend the meeting and address it there, instead of giving the cops a hard time for doing their jobs and enforcing the law. It looks like everyone has forgotten what they were taught in drivers ed. Maybe a refresher course is needed for those who feel they are being targeted.

Perhaps you misread, sir. But I did not say 'which side of the road'.
