Let's remember that Mandi ruined her kids lives as well as her family's reputation. Who knows what the girls witnessed while their mommy was performing her disgusting sexual acts on minors as well as her gross pictures she was sending.
Hold on a damn second. Disgusting sexual acts? What kind of prude are you? Sucking a man is not a disgusting sexual act, nor is eating out a chick. Problem was, she did it with a kid. Choose your words more carefully!

Did you read your own articles? Your first clearly states that spanking used infrequently and in a loving home works. And there's a big difference between scientific facts and the phrase " evidence suggests". I have no dog in this fight but your a special kid of stupid. If its on the Internet it's gotta be true!
Trust me,there are just as many articles that support spanking, notice I did NOT say beating your child, promotes healthy and well-adjusted adults. I a have been a teacher for over 20 years and I can always point out the children whose parents feel the way you do and believe me when I say you are not doing your child any favors. I was spanked many times as a child and had to occasionally spank my own 2 children and never once did I feel abused I only felt my parents cared enough to discipline me. Oh and my children are both college graduates and were never once disrespectful or needed to be disciplined while attending school.

Well, back when I was a boy, we had to walk a mile to school in two feet of snow and then walk two miles home! And if we weren't back in time to finish our chores, my daddy would get drunk and thrash us half to death with his belt and then break the empty liquor bottles over our heads for good measure. Yes, those were the the days, they were hard but we kids had respect back then and there weren't no CPS to go tattlin' to either.

I went to a one room school,
Walked to and from that school.
I carried lunch in a paper sack,
It was one mile over and two miles back.

Seriously TWELVE YEARS HOUSE ARREST?! These weren't preschool kids, these were highschool boys who we all know were willing. Yes, it was wrong, but I do not consider her sentence as light what-so-ever.
If a man had done the same things this woman did he would be behind bars No Doubt!!!!!And there are plenty of them right now in jail or prison for less than what she has done.

Being a law-enforcement Officer, I can testify their is a difference between beating your child, and disciplining your child. Beating (or domestic battery) is the unwanted or physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature which is intended to cause physical harm. Discipline is defined by WEBSTER DICTIONARY as-training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.
I was spanked (several times then I can count) when I was younger, and I thank my father (and mother) everyday for correcting me and molding me in the the productive, law-abiding citizen that I am today. To say that one specific form of discipline can be applied to every type of child, is like saying that any type of engine can go into just one type of automobile. A parent must know their children and know what type of discipline can or will be effective. I will not deny that I have been to households, where the child was severely lacking any type of discipline and the parent was afraid to touch them because they feared they would go to jail(and the child knew this). These children have little to no hope of being contributing members of society. Their parents have seen or read these articles that assumed disciplining a child (such as spanking) was equal to child abuse...which it is not. My father, before spanking me, explained to me why he was doing this, and what I did to deserve the discipline. Afterwards, he would always tell me that he loved me and that it killed him to spank me, but that someday I would understand why he had to do what he done. Now, as a grown man, I see why my father disciplined me, and I thank God for this. My father and mother used other forms of discipline ex: grounding, chores, no TV, etc., etc. But spanking was last resort (unless I really stepped out of line), which due to the spanking was not very often. This taught me rules, boundaries, respect, and character. Maybe I'm the exception, who knows? But I will never stop thanking my mother and father for how they raised me.

On a lighter note, Mandi Smith/Barker's sentence was agreed upon by the Marion County Prosecutor. A Judge holds the right to refuse ANY plea agreement. In this case he obviously didn't. However, for all of you disgusted by the Judge's willingness to go along with such a plea agreement, remember this, "this Judge holds an appointed/elected position". There stands a good chance that some of you who are so disgusted by this sentence helped place a judge into the position to go along with such an agreement. So come next elections, be sure to know who you're voting for. That is, unless you're satisfied with the out-come, which if that is the case....you can sleep soundly at night.

The original sentence was 30 years in prison. The judge modified this to 12 years home confinement. The prosecuting attorney did NOT agree with this and argued in court that under the circumstances( multiple victims - multiple offenses)her case did not warrant modification. However, in a plea agreement situation the judge has the final say. This was all reported in the Times WV and other newspapers.

Spanking is abuse wrote:
<quoted text> "A crucial 2002 study takes a look at how spanking affects kids. Psychologist Elizabeth Thompson Gershoff of Columbia University's National Center for Children in Poverty analyzed 62 years of collected data, and found that the more often a child is spanked, the greater is the risk of childhood aggression and other antisocial behaviors such as lying, cheating and bullying. Children who are raised with spankings are less likely to learn right from wrong, and are more likely to misbehave behind their parent's backs. One of the pro-spanking mothers in my practice conceded,'My son behaves if I spank him -- but I don't know if he's behaving out of fear or because he's learning to distinguish right from wrong.' Clearly, spanking changes a child."
- http://www.ivillage.com/10-alternatives-spank... - People laugh at this as though it doesn't work. They have never tried it. These methods are proven to work. The kids with the worst behavioral problems around here are spanked. It's ridiculous that you said there is no alternative to spanking. I am glad you are retired. I wouldn't want you anywhere near my kids.
So, you're stating what's been revealed to us through the Bible is incorrect. You stick with Elizabeth Thomas. I'll stick with The Lord. We'll see who comes out on top.

I read your articles. I laughed out loud when I read number seven.

Inspire your child to cooperate with phrases like, "It's time to go. Why don't you go down the slide one more time and then let's hustle. I want to get home in time to make cookies."

Yea...that's a real world scenario. A more likely scenario would be

"It's time to go. Why don't you go down the slide one more time and then let's hustle. I want to get home in time to do the laundry, pay the bills, make dinner, then scrub your dirty a** before tucking you in."

I'm sure your little angel would gladly comply. Non-spankers are so full of sh*t. No parent has the time nor the inclination to stop every five minutes and give a detailed analysis of why a four year old should do as their told. The child has no life's experience and want...what they want...for selfish reasons. It's the nature of children. I'm not slamming kids, but its true. They want to do whatever makes them feel good in the moment. Reasoning with them will not work because they haven't matured. A quick swat on the bottom informs the non-compliant child that:

1. They're not always going to get their way.
2. They're not the center of the universe.
3. They must follow ordered, even when they don't feel like it.
4. There are repercussions for every action
5. Not following mom and dad's instructions makes their a** hurt.

Who is responsible for the decision for Mandi having the ability to get on the Internet still. This is pathetic. The same way how pathetic it is other people in family are continuing to mess with young boys. This needs to end....I know who I'm not voting for next election.

When the judge sentenced her to home confinement, she reportedly responded, "Oooo, that sounds kinky! Is that like bondage?"
