Very sad.... but everyone knew this was coming. The real sad part is what our CEO has for its future. He is planning major layoffs, unions will be gone, and his personal agenda to get rid of people in his way or pissed him off in the past. There will be 10-15 additional people layoff within the next 30 days (friend that works in HR).

I feel sorry for the workers however the treatment of the patients by SOME doctors and SOME staff was terrible. I know a patient who is 50 yrs old who was told to follow up with their family doctor for chest pains and edema. No stress test, only blood test. Went to UHC and was immediately admitted. So basically you can thank SOME of the doctors and some of staff for this happening. Not to mention the billing department never had patient information correct, they keep biling my old insurance and then turned me into collections. I never rec'vd one bill from them directly only from my OLD insurance carrier. Again, the employees of FGH are to blame for this. Once again I feel sorry for SOME of the employees for losing their jobs due to greed.

Filing for bankruptcy is just a way to dissolve the unions at FGH. The company either has to close for a year and a day or file bankruptcy in order to get rid of the unions. This has been a long time coming. The finances at FGH have been in disarray for quite some time. They have had trouble paying creditors for several years. As having some of the top paid employees in the region, because of the Unions, this will be one way to cut costs and luring a prospective partner in. None of the other area hospitals want to take over a union facility. Pay will and should be cut and put more in line with what other employees make at other hospitals nearby. I'm sure all employees will end paying for their insurance as well, as all other hospital employees do at Ruby and Mon General. If Ruby takes over, employees at FGH can look forward to having their pay cut to what the employees make through WVUH. It's been a long time coming, but truly, these are changes that need to be made in order to bring in a prospective partner. Good luck FGH, you're going to need it.

Yes. FGH needs to bust up the union and restructure. The unions today are a bunch of cry babies who take your money and cause financial havoc on organizations. Look at the non union hospitals around the area - they are doing much better than FGH.

Second, get rid of the money draining health plex.

My mom works at UHC as a nurse and they are not union. My sister works at Ruby as an RN and THEY are not union. So what is "what a joke" talking about? Maybe YOU should check YOUR facts before spouting off as well.
umm NO

I am a RN at UHC we are not union, stupid. i did work at Ruby previously and the only union is for ancillary staff, NOT nurses.
Maybe "what a joke" should get the facts correct.

wow..."what a joke" you are partially correct. Ruby is represented by Teamstersbut only for their ancillary departments. I have no idea about UHC ancillary or otherwise, but rest assured the Union is NOT the reason that FGH is in this position...either one of them...and yes there are 2 different ones up there. Believe me, busting up the Unions is not going to be the salvation of that place even though it may sound good...nor did the Unions cause this problem, but we are more than willing to help FGH get out of this mess a winner. we have great customer service...a fantastic selection of physicians who are wonderful doctors...and enough employees that deliver exceptional care to our patients...our customers...and more than enough people that care enough to see that this place is a stellar example of what a community hospital can be...anyone else want to get on board?

Because of the nurses' access to local anesthetics, the gratification expected from the type of sexual practice that you refer to is often greatly diminished.

It's not just the medical staff that sucks there. They have people that have been working there for years and years and still have no idea how to do their jobs. MSO, engineering and IS dept to name a few. The managers of those departments are fully aware of it and do nothing about it either.

yes and these people in those depts. make from 70-100k a year. How can they survive paying those types of salaries?

FGH should sell the TV rights and make it a soap opera. So much drama there.

The problems causing FGH's bankruptcy are numerous, but they all boil down to financial mismanagement and irresponsibility by the current and former management teams. What hasn't come out in any of the articles I've read is the fact that the management team has annually taken 5- and 6-figure bonuses over the last several years of this "financial crisis." There hasn't been a word about the excessive golden parachutes given to departing managers. You haven't heard about overpaid, underworked, incompetent middle managers who don't follow their own rules and show up when they feel like. And yet, when it comes time to pay the bills, the management team calls on the unions to pick up the tab by paying more for their benefits. The leadership at FGH won't tell you that Local 550, representing the housekeepers, nurses' aides, and other support service employees at FGH already switched their health insurance to a union-sponsored plan that saved the hospital thousands of dollars a month in benefit costs. Before one more dollar in concessions is agreed to, there had better be some changes in management and policy.

Blame the Board for their Apathy and blindly accepting the smoke and mirrors information from the top four who truly know nothing about running a hospital. When horrible decisions are made for four years what do you think will happen. This community deserves better than this management team. They will leave and who is left to clean up the mess. So many have ignored what has been coming for four years, blame your board.

I wouldnt say that this executive team is really that bad. Dan did a really good job of cleaning house and getting rid of some of the people that were not carrying their weight. He still has lots more people that he's let slide though. And I dont think the bonus comment is true. Salaries over 55k are available on the internet through the hospital authority and the executives dont make much compared to what a lot of other hospital executives make. You will however, see lpn's on the list making 80k a year which is ridiculous.
