More small-town officials quitting over Oregon ethics rule
“I'm not filling out the forms. This is a violation of my civil rights and an invasion my privacy”
In tiny Elgin, six of the seven City Council members are quitting rather than fill out newly required state ethics forms, and the seventh might. via KGW-TV Portland

See ya later.....
We have lived under the control of petty small town administrations for too long. This effort to put some sun shine into local government is long past due. There is a requirement for a background check for anyone going on a outing with school kids and that check is then available to anyone in government to check again and again for years in a small town. It is time the people demand open government and this is where it must start. The state office holders know this requirement will keep thousands of potential candidates out of the system and insure the state office holders a comfortable ride with no one coming up from local government to challenge them. Lets just end the concept of private lives and all join a commune.
