Accidents are accidents,I am sure you would be happy to know, that The truck driver that burned to death, Roland Keith Bunnells49 of Cameron NC, obituary request for all donations to be donated to the local Animal Adoption and Rescue Organization or people can contribute to the funeral expenses. For myself , I will be contributing to the both. You see sir, I would like to tell you our family loves animals and we love people. We would never try to hurt anybody. If you can imagine the "freak out" factor of seeing a donkey on the road, you can understand why the driver swerved. This was all anyone could talk about on the CB all day. There is sympathy for the drivers involved, but even I was taught in truck school (many years ago) that you run over the animal in the road rather than cause damage to people or property.

Would I have run over the donkey? I would rather do that than cause another person to lose life. But the sheer shock of seeing one in the road - I don't know.

Gentlemen and any lady drivers too...you always run over the animal..because it is safer to continue in your lane than to make a sudden change...which happened in this case causing the loss of two rigs and one life plus the animal I think.

No one wants to kill an animal..any normal person anyways..but if it is a choice the animal comes in last.

According to the news, the donkey was not injured. It survived. And the only loss of life was Roland Keith Bunnell, who made the decision to swerve. By the way, I think he also swerved to miss the vehicles stopped in front of him because of the donkey, also.
So, he was not only swerving to miss the donkey, he was also swerving to miss the stopped vehicle.

I don't know this is a tough one, I ain't ever had no situation like that happen to me personally, but I agree, I think the utter shock caused by a donkey in the road would have caused me to swerve as well. I mean, I've seen one up close and it was scarry.

Back to Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," donkeys have been the "butt" of all of our jokes. Maybe it's the species paying us back for centuries of torture?

To the JACKASS who wrote this you should check your facts before you make a comment on things like this the truck driver who didnt dies name is John Mock my UNCLE.. he was sitting in stopped traffic if thats not driving careful i dont know what is.... he was parked with his brakes on when the other driver jack knifed and hit him.. IF IT WASNT FOR MY UNCLE THE WOMAN PASSENGER IN THE BURNING TRUCK WOULD BE DEAD. Also because of his years of driving experience when he seen the truck coming up behind he turned his steer tires towards the median.. ONCE AGAIN if it wasnt for him other people would have been seriously injured or KILLED. Please go back and check the news story again. He was the one driving the blue car hauler.. Thank you have a wonderful day

No matter what you learned in truck driving school,I think it is a sudden reflex to swerve, especially when you see a freaking donkey...I always see dead coyotes and dogs, but a freaking DONKEY on a freeway....
