I was driving through Englishtown today, and saw this place, before the auction/fleamarket, on the right hand side .

Cholula is in the same building that was once the polish deli/restaurant. Then that A.R.K. floor guy opened the italian sandwich shop that was really really bad. Lets hope that the mexican food at cholula is bueno!!!

I live in Englishtown and when I first noticed this restaurant was opening so close to my house I was very excited to say the least because me and my wife love Mexican food. Anyway, myself and my wife ate there [Cholula's, Englishtown] the other night and all I can say is that we've eaten in a lot of different Mexican restaurants and this had to be some of the worst Mexican food we had ever eaten. We usually go to El Mason in Freehold which happens to be very good and also Escondido's in Freehold [Next To Moore's Tavern] but neither place is nearly as close to our house. First off, the atmosphere leaves little to be desired. Very brightly lit and cold fluorescent lighting. However, we usually donít care about the atmosphere just as long as the food is good. Well, the first problem we encountered was with their menu. If you donít speak Spanish/Mexican then you probably wonít know what 75% or more of the menu items are because itís mainly written in Spanish. I was able to figure out a few things just by some of the words but for the most part it was written for a person who speaks Spanish not English. As a starter the waitress brought out Tortilla chips which were hard and stale and the salsa was like tomato puree. Not a single chunk of anything in it. I might as well have been dipping my chips in a glass of V8 juice. We ordered a Chicken Gordita and split it. It didnít look or taste like any other Gordita we had ever eaten and it had no flavor what-so-ever. It was extremely bland and had hardly any meat in it. So far our experience is not going so good. We were now hoping that the Chicken Chimichangaís we ordered were going to make up for the bad chips, salsa, and Gordita. Well, this too had hardly any chicken in it. It was loaded with nothing but rice and also had very little flavor. The waitress wasn't the best either. She always had a puss on her face. Not a single smile the entire time we were there and I always felt like I was bothering her anytime we had to ask her for something. I know this is gonna sound crazy but to top it all off when we got home we both got sick. Both of our stomachís were turning and we were both nausous and we both threw up.Well, needless to say, we wonít be going back there any time soon. I guess weíll have to continue to trek up to El Mason or Escondidoís in Freehold if we want to eat Mexican? Maybe Iím coming off as being hard on a place that just opened for business but it really was that bad. I hope Iím wrong but I canít see this place staying in business too long. Iím very curious to hear what others have to say about this place?
