I have read through all these comments and do not condone murder or suicide. With that said, I don't think that he needs to be jailed. Most likely he will not be "living large" in jail (especially where he worked). I bet no one knows that the reason his daughter was with him was because HER MOTHER DIDN'T WANT HER!!!. She left and didn't want to be a mother or a wife. I absolutly believe that he needs mental help. But, his daughter is definately not better off with a mother (if you can call her that) who doesn't want her. Get the whole story next time. THey all need HELP!!!!!!!

I can't see anywhere in this outrageous article where this man tried to take his life or his duaghters. What the hell are you people talking about. Read the article for Christ's sake. I simply see where it states that he wrote about suicide. Where is the attempt? Did the Courant and Police miss that too.
I think you all judge too harshly and to quickly. What if this man was sick? What if he simply wrote things that were happening in his mind? What if he had been a great father? What if this girl's mother was the worse piece of filth and the father was this little girl's love. Why didn't the Mother have custody? Maybe something happened on her side of the family. Alot of sexual predators out there. Maybe she knows one. Maybe this is a revenge issue by her family without regard for the child. Maybe the father felt he had run out of options at the time.
Think about it? I know this man and he is a caring person and a wonderful father. Doesn't all add up to me. In fact, I don't believe most of it. Don't be a fool and allow what the media prints with there biases cloud rational thinking. It all sounds fishy to me. By the way......where did he exactly break the law? By the way......Thank you in Rocky Hill. This so called "mother" has been anything but to this child.
The father is involved with school, extra activities and lived his life around his duaghters needs. While the mother was out sleeping around with every Tom, Dick and Harry she could lay down with. Then of course there is the mother's brother who is in prison for malesting this child. Thanks to the hard work of the father and the courts on that case.
Of course.......the wife and her family supported the pervert in his trial.

Once again the Courant won't print about this Correction Officers excellent job performance. I did check and this individual has no criminal history. Not even a speeding ticket. He is regarded highly by others and is percieved to be a compassionate, caring person. Well....in this hating blog, I guess you can lock him up and throw away the key for expressing some thoughts out on paper. Didn't know that was a crime.
You either have a stake in attacking this person or you are that ignorant that you can't see between the lines. You choose.

Mr. Swoverland's defenders need a reality check. The parents shared JOINT legal and physical custody, you can check court documents and verify. The mother DID not abandon her daughter. She left Mr. Swoverland after years of mental abuse. Citizen 55, did you know the "caring" father threatened to shoot her if she left him and then put her through a wood chipper? That therapist after therapist told him HE was the problem and he needed help?

You guys are absolutely desperate to write such outrages lies about the mother and her family. Why did it take YOU so long to write anything. Needed time to come up with these lies? You guys are disgusting to attempt to harm the child by writing this things.

It was Mr. Swoverland's hand writing in that note. He put the clothes for the "funeral" out there. It was HE, who had a loaded gun in the car. It was he, who sent the text messages outlining his plans. What "loving" and "responsible" parent would ever think or even write that he was going to end his childs life? Are you guys insane? Actually, no need to ask, my bad.

As far as work goes, he was written up for threatening remarks and harrasment. It should be in his records. There is proof out there and he knows this!

As far as the charges, all the state has to prove is the "Intent." He wrote his intent, he spent and entire night thinking about this. He had time to change his mind and send the child to school. He did not. He even wrote about telling the child that they " where going on a magic bus ride to heaven." Are you kidding me? Who ever YOU are, you are just mad and upset, because the mother wont give in to Mr. Swoverland's demand to be able to contact the daughter. Please! Cry me a river.

"Citizen 55" and "anonymous" in Rocky Hill, should be ashamed of themselves for trying to divert fault and guilt in this case. You have shown a total disregard for the childs best interest here, just like the father did on that day.

Give us all a break who are you fooling the state has not proven "intent". You really are sick if you think that you can try and spin this one. You lay out funeral cloths ,talk about magic buses, buy a gun ,pull your daughter out of school, load the gun ,lay out detailed plans,go right where you said the bodies whould be found in your own writing.Then you put your newly perchased gun in a tacklebox,give us all a break like channel 3 news said some how some where some one was looking out for that little girl.

[Lesson learned]

Some people will never take responsibility for their actions, while those actions increase in severity over time. This is a prime example. The offender will never accept and admit that he is wrong even in this extreme situation. Therefore, our legal system needs to be the responsible one and keep him for continuing to control, intimidate and hurt those he claims he loves. Take it from one who learned the hard way with this one - he is dangerous and will plan his next move if we don't stop him.

Yes, Mr.Swoverland WAS written up at work, has had numerous conflicts with co-workersas well as his supervisors and has been told to stop harrassing at least one female co-worker. In addition to this, he has been out on worker's comp. at least four times in his short career in Corrections. He is not regarded highly by those who know him. Most people are uncomfortable around him and think he is mentally unstable, even before this case. How can he justify writing about killing his daughter just because he didn't go through with it? How can you still think you're a good father after putting those unthinkable thoughts on paper and taking steps to make it happen? Won't you EVER hold yourself accountable Mr.Swoverland?

I know this man and he is an excellent father. He has been placed in a situation where this childs mother continues to abuse this child emotionally. This little girl only protection has been her father from sexual abuse by the mother's brother( her uncle)physical abuse by her 2cd husband and emotional abuse under her care. Why do you think this man had custody to begin with. Simply because the mother was out bar/club chasing men every week while this man worked hard to support his child and provide a nurturing enviroment for her. I am very aware of the facts and they are simple. this man did not hurt or try to hurt anyone. He simply sent a suicidal type text message while he was under the affects of dangerous medication. He loves his daughter and has been her sole provider. The mother is an immature tramp and is using this as a vise to maintain custody and manipulate this child away from her father. Go bash someone who deserves it. this is a good man and better father who had an unfortunate medical event in his life.
By the way....the media uncovered this man's employment records and found nothing but good reviews and letters of commendation for a job well done. There is also no criminal history to speak of.
Simply another lye and poor attempt by this tramp to destroy the reputation of this good man.
